Here is a write up I did on these fish a while back....

Well here is what I know and don't know all rolled into one.

They are a member of the scorpianfish family and have the ability to envenomate fish or people. Their life span isn't known yet, but some say as little as 4 years, though this may just be in the aquarium housed ones. Once acclimated they are generally a hardy species. One of the big issues that seem to come from the early deaths, as in weeks to months, are possible bacterial infections. These are easily introduced through the common bag rub on the lower jaw. (Even just transporting mine for about a hour resulted in bag rub.) They seem to almost freak out while in a bag and are constantly trying to get out by jumping or swimming.

Feeding is easily done with live food, though most can be trained onto prepared foods as well. If switching to prepared foods, a good mixture is desired to keep any liver issues down. Never feed fresh water fish as they don't have the necessary nutrients the salt water preds need. Silversides, salmon, or cod are all good choices.

Tank choices are easy. They can be kept in a smaller tank, such as a 20 or 30, as they tend not to move much. They normally aren't swimmers and move around almost by walking on their pectorals. If going with a larger tank to add more fish, remember that they have large mouths and will readily eat anything they think will fit. Avoid adding "picking or grazing" fish as it may mistake the rhino for some type of algae or other food.

While they are becoming more available in the hobby, they still are a rarity to find. Two main types are usually available. Rhinopias frondrosa and rhinopias eschemeyeri. The frondrosa has more of a weedy appearance while the eshemeyeri has a smoother appearance. There are four other species...aphanes, cea, argoliba, and xenops, though they are not seen in the trade usually. I have seen the prices of the eshemeyeri and the frondrosa fetch anywhere from 150- 1500 dollars per fish. Not a cheap fish for sure, but one that is a definite attention grabber and conversation starter.

Is this supposed to list all of the predator fish? Because I'm pretty sure that's gonna be really hard.

No it's not. That's not the point. Point is to have a list of some press that come into the trade.

I would not consider the blue throated triggerfish a predator because it is reef safe and does not eat small fish or clean up crew members.

Not considering the blue throated trigger a predator is silly. It most definitely is a predator and will kill other fish if it feels like it. It’s only considered “reef safe” because it’s much less likely to go off than other triggers. I would say no trigger is truly reef safe.

I've had a Niger trigger that was as mellow as a lamb, and one that was a real punk.
If you're into Caribbean species, the Queen trigger is one of the most aggressive I've seen.
Emperor Red Snapper aren't all that aggressive toward others....unless they can swallow it whole.

My Blue Throat was over 8inches and would not hurt a fly, except to eat it...Never bothered any other fish, old or new. But, he was big and healthy so when it was feeding time it he would break some of my Lion fish spikes to get to a silver slid.
