I’ve read anbout ugly phases and other inevitable things that happen in a brand new tank: diatoms, hair algae/bryopsis, spiorbid worms, aiptasia…

I’m curious what remains in store for me. Aside from the ones mentioned above, what are some other really common events/stages that new tanks are likely to experience as they head to maturity?

Just saw your tank thread and its looking great so far!

Your rock still looks very white, so you can basically expect different types of algae / organisms starting to grow on them over the next few months. Likely will go through different phases of growth, until it stabilizes.

The only couple of things that I can think of that are pretty common nuisances that I've had in both my tanks are: bubble algae, vermatid snails, and cyano. The first two are hitchikers, so I always recommend you dip coral before putting anything in. Cyano is really due to an imbalance of nutrients. In my experience, you either have diatoms or cyano, until things stabilize and hopefully you'll only have small amounts of either/both.

Just my 2 cents, happy reefing!

New tanks will have a lot of trial and error related issues. However, once everything gets dialed in and established; you will have a rock solid tank!
