I have a IM 100 EXT. used their kit lid for a year and finally replaced it with a ClearView Lid. Should have done it a long time ago.

I’ve seen pet octopus but my experience is limited and they have always been small.

Yours is incredible! I’m sure very intelligent. The weights make sense now.

Do you find it’s a hard pet to keep?

she died at the end of June. they don't live long. 18-24 months. she was probably a year old when I got her. I did not find it hard other than you shouldn't go away with out having someone on call. she ate crabs and snails freely in tank and I would hand feed her shrimp, oysters, clams. in the end the last week it was like she didn't know me (senility) and last 2 days she didn't eat. very interactive and friendly though. I wrote it up on my build thread. never tried to get out though. grew to about 24" arm tip to arm tip. kids loved feeding her.

Thank you for sharing your experience, I’m sorry for your loss. A creature like that would really grow on me, I wouldn’t get one just knowing this in advance

I made a DIY mesh lid for my tank. It has aluminum hinges with aluminum fasteners too. Works like a champ.

Me, too! I made mine out of a DIY screen door kit I bought from Home Depot. I cut it down to size, and it was perfect! All in all, I spent about $20. It's been on there for almost a year, and it's still going strong!

So what is the concern with corrosion on the screen frame material? I have thought about making one myself but worried that it will corrode over a salt tank. Are the colored versions safer? Like white/brown etc that Home Depot has? What screen material did you use?

I used materials from Home Depot for mine. I take it off a couple times a month and rinse it off to clear salt residue, but that is it. So far, at least, I do not see any signs of corrosion.

Thanks for the response! What did you use for the “screen” part? Just the 1/4” plastic netting online from like BRS?

I have a curtain that’s clearly not up to the job
My ruby head fairy was on the sofa next to where I nod off the other morning
My 4 year old woke me up “ papa rainbow is on the sofa” one of my dogs brought it from the floor 3m away to put it next to me
Well, soon as a grabbed her I felt movement and said a prayer , next day after hiding out she’s flying around the tank again
God knows how long she’s been sat there waiting for water ,, dry as a bone , teeth marks definitely thought a goner but here she is |

Did the goby jump out when the lid was off?

My firefish are now in my display tank. It’s pretty much an adrenaline rush everytime I’m working in the tank now with the lid off! If that helfrichi ends up in the floor my heart will break.
