I’d say go for a little bit more than what your tank would need. Idea being a slightly oversized heater doesn’t need to expend as much energy running a tank slightly smaller than it’s rating is for and thus it should last a little longer. Also. If you can get something like an inkbird controller for some redundancy

Ah. Well, if it’s a tenius…idk…I’ll just say why I’m staying away from that species for a while.

so basically if a coral is fresh out of the ocean, it’s going to be a lot more sensitive. Corals which have been in the hobby or captivity for a few “generations” (frags have gone out from the original collected colony, said frags have been grown and once subsequent colonies are large enough..fragged and shared, etc. think Oregon tort) seem to be more forgiving and hardy

A lot of the tenius that are hot right now are either wild or maricultured, and thus not accustomed to captivity. And it’s really hard to determine if a specific tenius has the history in captivity I mentioned if all you know is trade name that vendor is saying.

so…do you, if you want to give it a shot by all means. You asked though..lol

for me, FWIW, I’m sticking to torts, sp.s, some of the millies, stags, and the smoothskins that have been around for a while like the red dragon.
