Updates trickle in but I’m still here !
I was able to curb the itch outbreak with good water quality and twice a day feeding. My fish are fat and heathy. I continue to stock my tank with coral from @usernam invalid and I’m extremely happy with they way the tank is progressing. I’ve decided that I wanna focus my money and time more on a LPS tank with maybe a few easier to keep sps like green Slimer and birds nest. I’ve changed a few other things around also but I’ll save that update for this week when I have more time on my hands for now enjoy the pictures from yesterday

I really think the main focus will be euphylia and nems. I do have 2 small acan colony’s they have good days and bad days. I don’t know much about them if there slow or fast growers but my acans don’t really pop new heads. I’m not sure what there ideal range is

I keep my acans on my sandbed and feed them reef roids or mysis shrimp twice a week. They grow like crazy. I am setting up a IM Nuvo 16 this weekend and going to focus it on acans, zoas and a GSP island.

How are things going?
Hey ! Thanks man for checking in. Things have been real crazy with work. The tank is on cruise control. Last week I noticed that my sps were bleaching and my lps was withering away! I did a full panel of water test and everything cane back ok. Well turns out my refractometer needed to be calibrated and was reading wrong. So my salinity was sitting at 1.020. So I did a small water change and added salt to my ato. Hopefully within the next few weeks it will rise back to Normal.

My other issue is I’m battling low ph. It ranges 7.6 to 7.8. I cannot run a airline outside and it is cold where I live so I cannot open windows. I’m seriously contemplating getting a co2 scrubber from BRS but the media is so expensive so I’m still exploring my options.

I hope to get back to posting more and will get some pics once they daylight is on

Hey all!

I wanted to update the build thread, Things have been slow as im trying to keep my hands out of my tank and things grow out. The next few days things will be picking up in activity as I have a clear water algae scrubber coming Monday! My refugium experiment failed a few months back and I added my skimmer back to my system. I believe that the less chemicals, additives, media like GFO you have in a system the better off. Essentially Im installing the algae scrubber with hopes I can eventually take my gfo off line. Im not even sure I can get it to fit under my stand and over my sump but I will try.
Im gearing up and pumped to attend my first reef-a-palooza! I will looking to stock up on LPS and some sps like encrusting montis, and birds nest. Maybe I will get to meet some of you there!

I will post pics if I can get my algae scrubber to fit under my stand. Thanks for reading!

Quick updated tonight. The clear water alage scrubber fits nicely under my tank! I was able to get it hooked up and running. Right now it’s running on a opposite lighting schedule from 10pm to 1100 am. I will keep everyone updated on growth once I start seeing some.

I also will be implementing a co2 scrubber hopefully next week. I have all the materials now it’s just that I’m working 16 hours days for the next 5 days or so. My buddy has a reef tank also and we use same salt keep all parameters the same pretty much run our tanks the same and he see 2x the growth then I do. They only thing we can contribute this to is his ph runs 8.2-8.4 and I run 7.7 to 7.9. So I’m going to give the co2 scrubber a shot and see what happens

Update on my alage scrubber about 5 days old now. I am finishing my 80 hr work week today at 330 so hopefully over the next couple days I can grab a pic, my screen is starting to get a brown coating on it so it looks like algae is starting to grow. I’m pumped to see how this goes !

Make sure you run the scrubber 24/7 until the algae is established in the screen. Then cut back the hours if necessary. It will take far longer to seed and establish if you leave it on the split cycle.

thank you! I made the mistake for running it only during the night, I will be changing the setting via my apex today so it’s on 24/7 but I have to say I am pleasantly surprised that I do have algae growth starting already!

Update !
So Sunday I finally was able to to hook up my co2 scrubber. What a great decision! PH was hovering daily around 7.9 and a low of 7.6. Now with my scrubber I drop to about 8.1 at night and 8.3 during the day. Obviously it’s stikk new but we will see what kind of growth effects this has if any. I’ve also been running my algae scrubber light 24/7 as per the recommendation from clear water algae scrubbers so that is deff helping to stabilize my PH. I’m starting to see decent alage growth on my scrubber screen. It’s mostly thin brown hair algae but none the less it’s growth.

Here’s a pic of the 2 week mark of my cw algae scrubber. Light has been on 24/7 and I’m seeing good growth. Now I haven’t seen a response in my nutrients but my feeding habit is horrible. I feed way to much and I need to work on a new feeding system and cut way back.

Looks good. Flow might be just a bit high and that’s causing the blank spot. Try dialing it back just a bit and the algae should change colors to that thick bright green mat.

Some updated shots of my corals from today. Current parameters
Alk:7.0
Call:390
Mag: 1400

Since the co2 scrubber was installed my ph has been hanging around 8.3-8.4. This has lead to a crazy increase in alk and calc uptake
