5'x3'x30" reef tank, running since mid-2017, haven't added anything new to the tank since '21. I added a Moyeri trio early 2018, the male/bigger female bullied the littlest one to death. Current fish tankmates are the female moyeri, is a Jap Masked Angelfish. The Moyeri pair has done fantastic in the tank, even spawning many times for a while (I have a video) a few years ago.

Anyway this past Saturday, I noticed him in the bottom front center of the tank, for more than a just moment, as he's pretty much in constant movement. Today, just fed, and he's still eating quite well and is upright, but is definitely more lethargic, hiding in the front rock cluster more, and noticed quite a bit of body weight loss. Based on the health of the corals and other fish, I don't think there's a tank issue (voltage, etc).

Figuring I've had him for 6.5 years, and he was the largest of the trio, wasn't exactly the 4.5" beast he is now, but he had to a few years old at purchase. Researching myself, I've seen 2-4 years frequently mentioned as a lifespan, which is obviously not it, but 10-12 years as the 2nd more common. I don't believe he's 10 years old (could be though), but really thinking it's just his time.

What are y'all's thoughts?

Most lifespans will vary and will depend on age of fish when acquired, diet, tank health and low stress levels

Nice tank - and thanks for the videos. Without more information from you - and with no new additions, I would only suggest old age - or a parameter problem

Thank you. Anything specific info/parameter that might help? If I remember the login I did an ICP not too long ago, but that won't help anything recent. The other 2 fish and all the corals appear normal and healthy. I studied him a bit more, no signs of injury/infection/spots/etc. He ate his evening feeding very well.

So If all looks ok - and perhaps it was a temporary thing - I would keep a close eye on the whole tank - but not necessarily any treatment. Parameters - just the normal - pH ammonia (doubt an issue) alkalinity, nitrate, temp, salinity

A smaller wrasse like that has a lifespan of around 5-7 years. Probably towards the end of its lifespan if not past its normal. Sounds like you’ve done well with it.
