Main hwy still closed. No eta on opening. My normal route to "town" is about 40 miles one way, today I'll be driving over 100 miles one way. Going to buy a new generator since hubs sold ours (why?!). Figured since fire is close and new fires are sparking, if we need to evacuate we'll take the RV with us.

Evacuations sounds scary. However. I am in a unique position that I'm at the tail end of the Town's small air strip, which the helicopter who fights the local fires hanger is here. I also live on the river they pull water from. Only a 4 lane road between my house and the river. All the water they could need. And then on my other side is the city water dept. So I have a feeling if a fire gets close, they will make the water dept a priority and the airstrip of course will be priority. Behind my house though is all mountain and woods.

But because of my homes position, I think my house would be saved, even if we had to evacuate. But still a bummer to think about. Planning on keeping my tanks topped off and well fed incase i have to leave them.

So you are on the west end or east end of the airport? Hillcrest Aviation owned by the Wilson's is the helicopter operator. I flew on one of their helicopters once with my family. If you ever get a chance it is a cool ride.

So what is your route to town? I have an employee that is stuck around Lenore on the north side of the river. His father, my friend Gary just passed away Monday unexpectedly and we were trying to visit the family yesterday but had to cancel due to Hwy 12 closure.

West end. Between the Clearwater Homes and the Smoke Shop. Our building used to be the 'cabinet shop' back in the day and many people still refer to it that way.

2 main ways to get to Lewiston right now, going up dent bridge to elk River, then to Moscow then down to Lewiston, dirt roads thru the mountains though so you'll want to know that route. Or towards kamiah and either to GreenCreek then cut to 95 then thru lapwai if they haven't closed 95, I haven't heard. Or kamiah to stites to Grangeville then 95 to Lewiston. BUT, if 95 is closed, might need to cut to Winchester and to soldiers meadows reservoir and towards Waha and then to the south end of Lewiston orchards, which will be dirt roads again.

We're going thru kamiah to Winchester then down to Lewiston. We're really familiar with all those confusing dirt roads since we used to live in Winchester.

Wow what a go around! Our 4×4 Toyota is with my son so we are driving the Audi convertible so gravel is a no go with its low ride height. I can use the truck but who wants to fill up twice for such a short run hahaha.

Good news the remaining duck is still alive. Hasn't made a peep though, I don't know if he's still traumatized or injured. I keep checking him about every hour, not really interested in food or his pool. But I'm sure that was extremely traumatic for the lil guy.

Update on duck. Not good. Appears fine, right now, but he did have several bite marks I didn't see on his rump that are already infected and infested. Washed out with a whole bottle of peroxide and gooped with ointment. Moved to a clean location for now. Thinking I should do a medicated bath in a bucket and dunk him and hold his head so he doesn't drink it. Researching what to use...

@Lowell Lemon looks like they reopened the hwy to Lenore. We drove down there last night. Bridge is open and summit grade is open. Summit grade is the road up the mountain rent next to the community center at the end of the bridge. It is dirt road, but very passable for any car. If you're not familiar, from Lenore, go up summit grade, keep left at the fork, it ends on Gifford Rubens Rd. Take a left, south, to Hwy 95 ( you'll go thru Gifford and Rubens) then a right towards Lewiston.

Fire did grow overnight to 35,000 acres, claiming 0% containment, and new evacuations. Expecting thunderstorms Monday, but the last round bought almost no rain and loads of dry lighting which is why we're looking at all these fires, so I'm not excited about tomorrow.

Gotta put the duck down.

Wounds just too deep, the biggest one on the back looks all the way to bone, or the maggots have eaten that far.

I've been trying to keep it flushed and clean but there's just too many, they just keep coming, and all the while fending off wasps trying to eat the exposed meat. Not good.

Extremely sad about this whole event.

@Lowell Lemon they opened all of hwy 12 tonight. While we were in town actually so we got to drive the normal route home.

Lots burnt from the hwy 3 junction to Cherry Lane bridge.

Did not see active fire but they're still claiming 0% contained of course.

Spent all day in Pullman getting ash dumped on us from a new fire near Pomeroy,WA. The rain may help tonight.
