Mag driving me nuts!

So long short, I'm using Randy's 2 part and was getting ready to start TM C. I test only alk monthly and make necessary adjustments off that. The tank is roughly 10 months old and the plan was bimonthly icp with the last being 4 months ago. I figured it would be a good idea to check on mag before starting the C which salifert is showing 1320. Not surprising as I've never bothered to check it or dose but glad I did. Plan was to take it to 1350ish then to 1400ish and start the C.

Problem is the mag is precipitating on contact and I can't figure out why. After about a gallon of this mix and 10 tests it hasn't moved a hair. I've tried it straight, deluded, at 8.3 at 8.5 with one hand behind my back. What in God's name am i missing this should be the easy part. Test is showing fresh at 1350 which seems about right.

Magnesium should not precipitate when added to seawater. Do you see anything visually happen when dosing?

It should be fine. You added a gallon to what size tank?

I found it seemed to take a lot of product to increase to a higher level.

But in the end, it did jump.

Assuming it was the right mix, magnesium should have risen nearly 300 ppm,

Either the kit is off, or the material was not the right one or maybe not made to the right concentration.

For me yes. Nothing scientific, just a feeling that it was a lot of product. Was going from 1300 to 1440.
Once I got to the level, I found it easy to maintain, and my mix ran about 1/6th of CA.
But I use pre-mix which runs cleaner through my Doser and so far, is consistent bottle to bottle.
