Makes sense, but don’t be discouraged! Euphyllia can be finicky for a variety of reasons, and sometimes the losses aren’t easily explained. Damage from shipping (even small wounds you don’t really see) can lead to bacterial infections; flow can be a bit trickier to figure out and is a bit of a delegate dance (like Goldilocks and the bears or whatever); and sometimes people are starving them without knowing it.

Get a nice aquacultured branching hammer (like the ubiquitous “splatter hammers” you always see), make sure you set your lights to acclimation mode for at least a week or two, feed generously with food lps likes (reef roids, benepets, etc.), and make sure you don’t glue it down for a while. Spend a few weeks watching it and moving it around to different spots with more/less flow/light until you see where it’s happy! You’ll be good to go. Just stay away from gonis for a while, they will make you sad lol.
The splatter hammer is the one I bought and lost. Loved it. Found it’s spot on the top rock as a centerpiece. It was growing well, feeding ab+ and benepets once a week and out of nowhere, it slowly died. No explanation. I will try again!

DUDE! You should get a Pectinia! They are awesome, and would look really cool alongside your other residents!
Don’t they have sweepers? I have a 65 gallon and worry about getting anything with sweepers because the other corals would be at risk.

Yes, they can be very violent and need some space lol. But no different from any other coral really, all coral are killers. And hammer and torch corals are serious murderers lol

Brother, you can have plenty of LPS without dosing. Like pretty much anything you want.

Dosing is useful for tanks that have extremely high consumption of calc/alk. Like the tanks you see on the internet that are wall to wall stony corals. The dosing is to replace the incredible calc consumption.

With a mixed reef, or only having some lps or a SPS mixed in, your tank won’t be consuming anywhere near that level. The normal consumption would easily be replaced and replenished by regular water changes. No dosing needed.
Great info, thank you. May go back and try a hammer in this sale.

They are fine lol, just give ‘em space and you won’t have any problems. I honestly have always been more concerned about leathers poisoning everything haha.

I tried a hammer from Ann and it didn’t survive. Montis require less than hammers?
Significantly less. Sorry! Had to go deal with a contractor!!! Getting ready to leave work now.

I have a 75 (same footprint as a 65 but 2 or 3 inches deeper). I have a hammer, Gonis, Alves, Favia, and Acans. All of those are fairly violent with long sweepers. They're all a couple inches from each other. 2-3 inches is good for most corals. If you're nervous, go with 5 or 6 inches of separation. Social distancing existed in reef tanks long before COVID hit.

You have to be careful with Pecs they have some pretty long and deadly sweeper tentacles.

Sorry I forgot to post these yesterday. This was once our lights were on night. So not the best. Still learning how to capture the true beauty of our corals!
