the refs have the worst job imo
yes they let the players play BUT its like a double edge sword when it goes your way you will love it but when its against your team you hate it. its obvious with any crowd when a call goes the home teams way they love it and they hate when it goes against them. this is hockey what happened at the end of this game reminded me of game 6 of the wings and ducks it was chaos cheap hit after cheap hits when the game was basically over. i loved to see malkin with the passion for his team and frustration got the best of him.

I have never been one to be mad because they want to get fighting out of hockey. Most of the time fights contribute nothing to the game. I agree that the refs have swallowed the whistles in this series but these aren't two teams known to goon it up. Inconsistency is where I get mad. That and when the refs decide the outcome of a game. I actually like the way these games have been called.

Are there union whistle makers in Detroit? Maybe they didnt get their bailout money yet......

I was watching the replay of the Malkin fight. I agree that Malkin snapped but watching it over I see why he snapped on Zettersburg. Talbot is just standing there at the end of the play and Zetterberg punches him in the face. I thought at first he just went after him for no reason.

After he speared Osgood in the chest Zetterberg smacked him. Righfully so.The ref gave Malkin an instigator penalty and the league overturned their rule. Just like the review on the non goal from Crosby. If the ref makes a no goal call on the ice it is not reviewable. When it is Crosby it is reviewable. Like I said it doesn't really matter because neither player has been of much effect and the Wings have the series under control. Malkin lost it because of the fact that the Wings controlled him and Crosby for most of 2 games. Zetterberg played a major roll in that. Crosby took a head shot at him in the neutral zone in game one. Zetterberg dominated him last year and I think he thought he would take a physical advantage this year. It hasn't worked. I expect them to get chippy. They are watching the cup slip away once again. Its funny, when the league once again favors their "stars" Malkin and Crosby, I am sure it serves as motivation for the opposing team. I am sure thats why Babcock mentioned that he sees Crosby on tv so much that he would think the Pens won the cup last year. He checked though, and that wasn't the case. Attacking Zetterberg probably wasn't the best move either. I would look for Malkin to have a worse time than he already has.

I know Im a Pens fan, but what Talbot did was wrong and I see why the wings took offense to it, I know if the boot was on the other foot I would be out for a "understanding".

Malkin, as good as he is, should have been suspended from game 3, just as all rinks need to be the same, all penalties need to be called and the refs need to do their job and call them, even during the SCF.

Saying that, I think the Pens are going to loose again to the wings, not because the wings are a better team but because the Pens cant keep them out of their heads.

I dont know what the heck the refs were looking at with the post ringing by Crosby, that was a waste of time to get it reviewed. We need to stop the puck dumping and do what we did to the canes and do it faster, we are way too slow when we let a bunch of geriatrics beat us to the puck over and over. Now with the wings getting more of their key players back, we have little chance of wining this series. I dont even want to watch anymore.

Well at least we will get to see the cup in Mellon Arena again, that will be as close as we are going to get to it if we dont pull our heads out of our collective a**es.

oops forgot that was the same play...:embarrassed: I thought the spear was from a different play. I agree the spear was cheap as hell by Talbot. I wasn't trying to justify Malkin fighting either way, I was just mentioning that I thought he went after Zetterberg for no reason at all. I initially thought Zetterburg was just standing there doing nothing. I'm fine with Crosby's hit on Zetterburg. I think he would have taken that shot at him not matter what even if the Pens were up 2-0.

I agree except for the Wings not being a better team and "a bunch of geriatrics". Our blueline consists of Rafalski (35) veteran with 3 cups, Lidstrom (39) 4 cups and still the best in the game. Nick Lidstrom is the Mario Lemieux of defenseman. He can still skate but his strength is that he is so smart. He is almost never caught out of position, never panicks, and is very precise with his stick. Stuart (29) veteran with 1 cup, Ericsson (25)rookie, Kronwall (28) veteran cup winner, Lebda (27) 2 cups. Our oldest forward is Kirk Maltby (36) 4 Cups. Clearly his is playing well and doing his job because after only 1 game he got under Crosby's skin. The Wings are clearly the best team in the NHL. They have a good balance of youth and experience. Even without Hart Trophy candidate Pavel Datsyuk, 4 time cup winner Kris Draper, Veteran defenseman and cup winner Andres Lilja, and cup winner Tomas Kopecky, they are still up 2-0 in the Stanley Cup Final. We have 3 rookies playing regular shifts and putting up goals. Darren Helm played 16 regular season games and has logged time against Malkin, beat Cosby in faceoffs, and killed penalties. Give your guys some credit. They are trying hard but they are up against a great team that has proven that they know how to win. The Wings are a poised and patient team of skilled players. They can wait until the other team makes a mistake and they pounce. From the first line to the fourth they have guys that execute. If our top two lines cancel each other out (which is largely what is happening) then our 3rd and 4th lines outplay your 3rd and quasi 4th line. (I say quasi because Malkin/Crosby play on the 4th line). I expect a split in Pittsburgh. With the last change the Pens should get Matchups they like. I still think the Wings will limit Crosby and Malkin and thats all they have to do. The Wings aren't Carolina. They won't allow 2 players to skate all over them.

Thats cool, the Pens are just frustrated which the Wings have a tendency to do to opponents. Zetterberg is a great player who will only be motivated by the Pens cheap stuff. The Wings have still yet to play their best hockey. I am betting on an embarassing annialation in game 4. Much like the 6-1 game against the Blackhawks. The Wings know how to steal the opponents will. They approach a series like a boxing match. Soften up the body, wear down and frustrate the opponent and then finish them off. They did it in game 4 last year. To the Pens credit they scraped up a good game in game 5 but the Wings responded in game 6. I honestly don't think this series will go that far.

The series isn't over and I am already missing hockey. At least when you get this far it's a short off-season.

Fleury definitely had his hands full tonight. Hopefully we can make a series out of it and keep it going.

You know this may be the longest non-reef thread at R2R. Just wondering.

I just posted in the xbox thread to Viva. We can continue on with NHL Live 09' on xbox live...Hockey all year round and live trash talking to boot...

Looks like the fun may be over for Malkin. Datsyuk skated with the team today and says he is healthy. If he plays Malkin will get about as many points as Crosby has.
