You know all od the "new" NHL stuff that has gone on and they dont focus on making sure all of the rinks are the same????? How hard is it to put the correct material in the NHL rule book? This leaves a big hole open to cheat.

I don't know about cheat, but yeah you would think the league would have a "standard" when the teams build the rinks. It's not like Fleury never played on that rink before. He should have known better on that first goal.

He started a fight at the end of the game. They were considering giving him a game misconduct as an instigator but decided that it didn't apply.

Show me a fight that didn't happen as a result of frustration in hockey or any other sport. I'd be frustrated too if I was the only one on my team besides the goalie giving much of an effort.

I know you guys love to hate me. For the record I was only bustin chops fan to fan all along. I appreciate that you love your team just as much as I love mine. Some of the guys on this thread got pretty personal even going as far as to declare hatred for a whole state. To me that is pretty absurd. I stated in an earlier post that I visited Pittsburgh to attend a Wings/Pens game and I enjoyed it very much. The fans treated us with class. I also tried to express that my dislike for Crosby was more a dislike for the Bettman driven hype. The guy is a good player but it took Yzerman (Crosby's idol) 14 years to win his first cup. Even then he had to be surrounded by a GREAT team. I have been watching hockey my whole life and I have been disappointed more times than not at the results of the playoffs. Remember the Wings getting swept by the Devils after setting a record for regular season wins? That was a really good team. They ran into a great team. Good luck in game 3 and congrats on a good run however it turns out.
:beated: The Pens are screwed if they play like that in game 3.

I think the Pens put up a great effort in both games. Crosby and Malkin have played with determination. Let's not forget that Zetterberg is a Conn Smythe winner and Lidstrom is possibly the best defenseman to ever play the game and the Redwings are the 2008 Stanley Cup Champs. The Stanley Cup has a reputation for being the hardest trophy in pro sports to win. It may sound funny coming from me but give your guys a break and give their opponent some credit.

They did give him a game misconduct and an instigator penalty. The league rules say that if you take an instigator penalty in the last 5 minutes of a game it is an automatic suspension. They saw fit to overturn the rules for Malkin.

The score sheet on NHL.com show an instigator, a fighting major, and a game misconduct.

They simply changed the rules for Malkin.

I understand they gave him an instigator penalty initially but my point was that they are saying that he should have never received one. I don't know the rules word for word, but if these are the criteria then I see why they overturned it. Still a dumb-butt move on his part either way.

Following that review, Campbell said: "None of the criteria in this rule applied in this situation. Suspensions are applied under this rule when a team attempts to send a message in the last five minutes by having a player instigate a fight. A suspension could also be applied when a player seeks retribution for a prior incident. Neither was the case here and therefore the one game suspension is rescinded."

I just saw the release from Campbell. I don't think it matters anyway because the Wings have the series under control but this is the type of thing that makes fans around the league mad. The guy lost his mind and was swinging with his stick in his hand at a super star player. Less than an hour after the game the league has reviewed it and declares it ok. What if Zetterberg sustained and injury during the altercation?

The refs are creating much of the problem by the way they call the games. They either call too much and don't let them play or don't call anything like in this series and the players think they can do whatever they want and it turns into rugby with sticks. There were tons of things on both teams that I was like "how is that not a penalty?" Game 1 where Kronwall launched himself into the air at Malkins head and ended up hitting into the glass above the boards. Cooke on our end had some cheap shots also that were not called. There were a many more also. Personally I don't care much for it when it gets like this.

I have never been one to be mad because they want to get fighting out of hockey. Most of the time fights contribute nothing to the game. I agree that the refs have swallowed the whistles in this series but these aren't two teams known to goon it up. Inconsistency is where I get mad. That and when the refs decide the outcome of a game. I actually like the way these games have been called.
