Nice backhand from Malkin. One of the sweeter goals from anyone all year. Now there is an 87% chance that the Pens will play the Wings in the finals. This is most excellent.:confident:

That 1st period drove me crazy with the back and forth goals. This series is going to get a little ugly also with the extra curricular activities at the end of each play. I have to go outside and check; it may be the end of the world with Kunitz scoring a playoff goal..:waaaht:

Yeah, I can't figure out which team is worse defensively.

What a clever response. The problem with it is that Detroit doesn't just run and gun from end to end hoping to survive the odd man rush. Just curious, what were the matchups that you think favor the Pens over Detroit?

lol Almost like watching Detroit

Detroit better keep on their toes or it will not matter how much better you think they match up against the Pens if they don't make it to the next round.

None of the matchups favor the pens. Detroit is so far superior that we have no chance to beat them. Maybe if we played the mom's of detroits players we could win one or two.

On a side note did you see the hit on Havlat? I am all for physical play and the hit was a clean hit but it's scary to see a guy look like he did after the hit. The scrum was happening on top of him and around him and he made no effort to protect himself. Completely out cold. I hate to see anyone hurt that badly in a sporting event.

I fully anticipated the Wings would lose this game. It seems when teams go up 2-0 and don't sweep it is game 3 that they lose. 87% of teams up 2-0 go on to win the series. However you need to stay healthy and Datsyuk is out.
The Wings had 25 penalty minutes in the first period. Kinda hard to get any momentum in your game that way. Some of the calls were ok but there were some horrible calls as well. Then in typical hockey fashion the tried to make it up by giving Chicago some horrible calls. Bettman has ruined the NHL. Specifically the playoffs. The refs decide more and more games on rediculous calls. There was a time that you wouldn't see a 5 on 3 in the playoffs unless someone was killed. lol Now you will see it in overtime on weak mystery calls.

Yeah that was scary. I agree the hit was clean. He just turned the wrong way and lowered his head at the wrong time. I felt bad for him when they were getting him off the ice and he was just in another dimension.

Every goal we score is not an odd-man rush goal. Detroit scored quite a few odd-man rush goals this series. You make it sound like the only way we score are fast breaks down the ice. That is so far from the truth. Detroit tried to send a message and play a physical game in the Hawks home arena and as you can see it did not work. They took step back and played their kind of hockey and tied it within 4 minutes. IMO the Pens can play either kind of hockey. IF the Wings and Pens make it to the finals I think I will be a great and close series.

"I fully anticipated the Wings would lose this game."

I didn't "fully anticipate" it but after watching game two, knew the Hawks could beat the Wings.

I agree 100% the officiating sucks big time!

What I was saying is that the Pens give up odd man rushes and therefore goals. Gonchar and Letang like to get cute and step into the play. The result is 4-7 hockey games. Chicago does it too and the Wings have made them pay on several occasions. I don't think Detroit tried to play any more physical than they usually do. I think Chicago is quick and forced the Wings a bit in the first. They took a couple of penalties that were legit. Then they got some horrible calls to go with them. They lost Kronwall on one of those horrible calls which shortened their bench considerably. When they played Wings hockey 5 on 5 they carried the play but Bettman's NHL has a way of killing the flow of a hockey game. Frankly I don't think the Wings have played all that well in this series yet.

Paul Kariya had a similar incident and was OK. I hope Havlat fully recovers. It looked really bad.

Honestly, I think they give up more goals when the D doesn't do its job clearing out the net and the opposing team gets 2 and 3 whacks at the puck. I guess that holds true to any team though. I agree 100% about the flow of the game and the penalties.

so if they are inferior team how did they knock off a 1st seed team. they are a very good team and they deserve to be where the are at. we are shutting down there top players and there D has no answer for us. its seems like no matter who the pens beat that team sucks and it doesn't matter that we beat them. not that the pens are playing great hockey

Because it's true. The East isn't as good as the west. Period. Philly isn't very good even for the east. Washington is a one line team with a shallow blueline and Carolina is clearly a spent team. Pittsburg is really just not that good. They obviously have a couple of good players but the true depth of their line-up is pretty average. Most teams play their best players against Crosby and Malkin and then it is mediocre players vs mediocre players for the rest. The team that comes out of the west will expose them for what they really are. It will likely be the Wings and they have four lines that they can play against any line on the Pens including their top line. They are also much deeper on the blueline. Cups aren't for kids.

By your measurement the Ducks knocked off the President's trophy winner and then the Wings beat the Ducks so the Wings are the best team in the league. I said it before, the Sharks, Ducks, Blackhawks or the Wings are all better teams than the Pens. If you limit Crosby/Malkin you can beat the Pens. Nobody they have played have had the defence to do so. However they haven't faced Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall, and Stuart along with very good 2 way forwards like Zetterberg (who owned Crosby in the finals last year) Filipula, Cleary, Hossa, Datsyuk, Draper, Maltby, Samuel, and on and on. Even if Datsyuk doesn't return the Wings will win it all. The Wings roll 4 lines that the Pens will not be able to match. With all the parity in the Bettman's league the Pens look pretty good but the Wings are the strongest franchise in the NHL from the puck boys, to the owner. They aren't gonna just lay down for some zippy little upstarts.
