Hi all,

Purchased this super small King Kong mushroom at reefapalooza in July 2024. Since then, it always appears to be shriveled/closed up? I’ve kept it in low flow, maybe ~80-90 par. Any thoughts why it looks this way?

I have 5 other mushrooms (various types), spread evenly across my tank and all are happy and growing.

PO4: 0.09
NO3: 6.5

All other lps/ SPS/ nems happy and open.

Mine was a teeny tiny booger when I got it. It took him quite a while (months) to start looking like a mushroom. Maybe still adjusting? It sounds like it’s only been a few weeks right?

This is what mine looked like when I got it in November of last year… less than half an inch across:

This was a couple of weeks ago, probably 2.5 inches across at full “inflation”

That’s hilarious. I love the photo-bombing goby :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Elevate it and see how it responds. Also be insufficient flow in area despite other mushroom looking happy

Yeah, he’s always there to judge me lol.

Thanks! I’ll leave the mushroom alone in that case. It’s right next to another mushroom that’s thriving, so logic tells me it’s in an ideal location.

Part of me wonders if something picked at it.. or maybe it’s just super tiny right now.. guess only time will tell!

Thanks vette, I did ultimately move it up slightly. Photo is deceiving, it’s not being shadowed by the monti.

Looking at it makes me wonder if something picked at it? I just don’t feel like I ever see it open despite everything else being happy.

It’s always the expensive ones … lol
