Tank is mostly prepped and ready for the new fish tomorrow! I installed the mesh fish guard to prevent any jumping into the overflow area. Aquarium-safe silicone was actually super easy and it stuck without any problems. Just wiped the acrylic down beforehand. Also moved around some rocks and tried to glue down zoas. I will use the 10g as a grow-out/frag tank, as these guys are growing super fast. I will need some cutters for the birdsnests soon, too.

Still theoretically possible that a jumper could get through that crack, but I think the likelihood is significantly diminshed, now.

In other news, I waited too long to do a water change and replenish the Flux Rx. I can see bubble reappearing and spent some time this afternoon picking them out. Will water change first thing in the AM and replenish the Flux Rx before the fishies arrive.

In other news, I am now in the final phase of transfer from my Evo. The major problem is getting the two RFAs off their respective rocks. The big green one is HUGE and super stuck. The smaller red one just doesn't care what you do to it. I tried to make a nem cannon, but it isn't big enough for the green RFA. I think it actually tried to go through but got stuck. Better luck next time.

In other news, it seems my Caulerpa went sexual in my macro holding tank (the IM 10g, holding the macros till the Flux is done). There are little wisps ALL over the glass.

In other news, I won a new Noopsyche K7 Mini!! Woohoo! I should be good for a clam with this. Just gotta get a reflector that works with the Noops.

That's all the news. Pics tomorrow! Fingers crossed the fish arrive alive and well!!
I had a watchman jump ship on me - and I didn't find him until it was too late. I hot glued some filter pad to the screen to fill in the space, but like the looks of what you did much better. What silicone did you pick up to use? I found the mesh on Amazon and have it on order.

Numbers are in! Last check was before Xmas, so let's see what's happening:

ALK: 6.1 (target: 8, acceptable: 7). looks like I need to up the AFR again, maybe just adjust ALK to get it where it needs to be. Maybe test Ca tomorrow.

NO3: >0, <1. This seems to be where I am always at. Corals are growing gangbusters, so not hugely worried about it as long as it isn't zero. Maybe give the fish a happy new year present and add an extra feeding in the day.

PO4: 0.05. I guess nothing to complain about here.

Salinity: 1.0245sg. This is where I want it until the last fish arrives in a few weeks. It comes at 1.025sg, so I like to have the DT ready to just float and dump. Then I'll bring it back up to 1.026sg.

In other, less than ideal news, the female clown has been getting more aggressive. She has always chased the firefish when he comes out of his cave, but now she is chasing the brunneus and he is staying back in the corners. @Slocke and others in the know, do you think putting her in acclimation box jail time would help with the aggression, or is this just going to keep going? I don't want to rehome the clown since she's my oldest fish and the fan favorite of the office (of course), but I'm not down with her messing with my wrasses. She touches a pinkie and she's O-U-T. Should be an easy catch. She attacks my pipette tip so I can probably corral her into the acclimation by with just that.

It might help reduce aggression but it will probably be a temporary fix at least for the firefish. Since the brunneus is new it might work better.

Hmm, if I move the clowns to my nano that's sitting idly on the desk... room for more wrasses!?

I threw mine on the ground then tossed her back in the tank. She's been a model citizen ever since and that was 2 years ago.

DISCLAIMER: Your results may vary. I don't recommend trying this at home.

The rest of the story? She was in my 5 gallon, I reached in to clean the glass with a sponge and she latched onto my finger. When I yanked my hand out, she came with it. After I tossed her back in the tank she swam a little goofy for an hour or so but was fine after that. She never attacked me or any of the other fish after that incident. I put her in an Acclimation Box which fell over and she escaped from with my other two clowns. All 3 have lived together happily for the last almost 18 months.

Luckily I'm at the office and not home, so definitely trying this!

Bahahahahaha! Enjoy your solitary confinement! And think about what you've done.

In other news, the black widow has decided that splitting and staying a manageable size is for loser nems...

Got me some new sticks yesterday!! I bought a garf bonsai from a local ($15) and came home with 2 extras. Shopping local is the best.

Garf bonsai there in the middle of SPS island. Should be getting good par and flow.

An interesting acro that I don't know the name for, placed a step down in the back:
1706300180349.jpeg

Apparently turns more blue-purple in high PAR but keeps a green sheen in lower PAR.

And finally, got a broken off piece of slimer, which I glued sideways on top of blenny's barnacles in the RFA/pavona/leathers island:
1706300259439.jpeg

That side of the tank get the lowest PAR, so I don't think the slimer is getting more than 250-300 PAR at peak. I could try to bring up the PAR a bit, but don't want to cook the trachy/scoly/lobo/pink nepthea/toadstools on the sand bed...

Side view of the new arrivals:

Also, rainbow BTA split again!

Always holding my breath when coming into the office on Mondays. Sad morning. Looks like the derasa clam is on its way out. Hasn't even been two weeks. Looks like starvation, to me, but from my previous experience, it doesn't happen this fast, so I'm a bit suspicious that the clam was already in a malnourished state--doesn't help that I was dragging my feet on getting the 35 degree reflector to put extra PAR on it :-(

For reference, this is how it looked on the 17th:

Bah! I'll wait a while before I try a clam again.

Well, I found out what seems to be troubling the clam, currently. Tailspot blenny keeps trying to nip at it, and it keeps pulling itself further and further into its shell. I don't know if this is the cause of the decline or a side-effect of a declining clam. Either way, the clam is still breathing, so I can't just leave it like that. Here we go, pop-up triage clinic:

I give it maybe 1% chance of making a comeback. But who knows. I'll pull it when it's stopped breathing.

In a lighter moment, I got to see the Tailspot Blenny turn from Tank Happy Guy to Tank Terminator. I think that Mrs. Clown mistook the blenny for the dusky fairy wrasse, who she is always chasing. Blenny was swimming across the rock with holes and when Mrs. Clown saw him through the hole, she darted through the hole after the blenny. Blenny turned around and took off right after Mrs. Clown who went "OH #$%*!", and started swimming sideways/backwards while Blenny kept dogging her till she fully turned tail and swam. Never seen the blenny assert itself like that, but bravo blenny!

Weekend, no tank, so you get dogs and a parrot instead. Found some old photos from an iphone 4s just backed up.

This dog loves a sunset more than a bunch of 20-somethings with a pack of wine coolers.
IMG_0459.JPG

Seriously, never seen this in a dog before. He'll wait for sunset then sit down and stare at it. Like he's contemplating the universe.

0 to 45mph in about 6 seconds. Back when she had her "masquera". All white in the face now :)

Goals of the week:
1. Clean up and prep 10g cube for the clowns as a temporary residence, add rocks and a nem
2. Catch the clowns, get them out of my wrasse haven; start thinking of more wrasses
3. Kill the 1 aiptasia that's in the 10g staring defiantly at me while I work
4. Cut up some more zoas
5. Place some zoas on the rocks where they belong, dabnabbit!
6. Pick up a new bright orange shroom
7. Lose 20lb
8. Make new water and do Feb water change
9. Start feeding more to get NO3 up--oh my poor fish will have to stuff themselves even more
10. Get back to dosing AFR Life Source; stop at 10 things

Oh yeah, I should probably go ahead and buy a Plank and figure out how to set that up.

Have a good week everyone!
