Is your tank a stress inducer or stress reliever?

Most of us got tanks because we wanted mini slices of the ocean to have something we could sit back and enjoy. However, sometimes, a source of relaxation can become a source of stress. Instead of the tank going smoothly, you have coral dying left and right, equipment failure, and your favorite fish developing a disease. So I am wondering, is your tank more of a stress reliever, or is it something that induces stress? Photo Credit: myaniz24

Think a little bit of both. Moved to a new home and started over, going bigger. So I'm at the 16 month mark with this tank and it's been up and downs through the ugly cycle. I'm still at the point I'm testing everyday, having to dang near block your schedule to test at the same time each day. Currently, my Alk increases everyday on its own, trying to figure that out. Zero dosing, like 4 frags. That gets a little stressful. Quarantining is a little stresser for me too.

Loaded question lol. I find it peaceful but ever since I decided to upgrade and my cucumber nuked my old tank before the new one was ready its been an uphill battle! Parts being delayed, running out of PVC glue, fish living in buckets, and my tank being half up and running and losing my two favorite fish to the cucumber. (NEVER will get one of those little MFs again!!) but I know this 300 will be amazing when its fully full and operational. My fish already love the space in the tank! Well the 3/4 full tank and a jimmy rigged HOB system with media lol.

I'd say it can go both ways. When the corals are all nice, fluffy, and colorful it's all good lol. But when that stops for no apparent reason....

That’s how it was for me, had a Duncan doing superb. Went on vacation, and it’s doing not so hot now.

Both at times, I suppose. But I’ve learned that bad things are going to happen regardless of my best efforts. So I tend to not get stressed about my tanks, but disappointed when things aren’t right nonetheless.

If I am 10 feet or greater away, it is a stress reliever. If I am closer than 10 feet it is a stress induced. Haha

Going to keep it simple to prevent it becoming an inducer. That would defeat the purpose and have enough stress trading volatility :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

I’m gonna be gone two weeks early to mid September and am trying to be confident that my tank will be able to run just fine. It will be the first time I’m away from the tank for longer than 3 nights. Recently hit the year mark so I think it’s finally getting to the mature stage. I’ve been instructing a close friend on how to manage it while I’m away. He’s gonna be over 2-3 times a week to feed the fish and dose the essentials. Trying not to stress about it but here I am already beginning to :grinning-face-with-sweat:
