Why do u automatically suspect that…don’t assume…he’s been back at the lfs for a bit now so no worries. Thanks for the input.
taking him back was probably best but OTOH If you have a long term plan that’s cool, but the growing curve slows in smaller tanks.
And I’m not scolding, almost all aquarium fish potentially get bigger in the wild than in aquariums. Just know in practice you can keep the fish in almost any sized tank “theoretically” but how healthy a stunted fish is and to what degree is outside of my knowledge.
Also not sure who has bred large batches of fish but anything that reaches 10” grows faster than practical for that tank…again that’s assuming you don’t mind drastically stunting that fish..again, if that even matters…

Well dang I don’t wanna do that then because it would be in the back of my mind everyday…wanted less torpedo fish (no dwarf angels) but maybe I’ll just focus on corals for now. Appreciate the input.
I think your tank is better at 4 feet so yours might work out OK. They are beautiful fish. Coral beauty has been fine in mine. I actually have 12 small to mid size first, different types and color variety with no tank issues at all so you have plenty of options for stocking.

What’s a pretty less torpedo fish I could go with then…already have 2 fire fish, 2 platinum clowns, Royal gamma, flame hawk and a blue mandarin…going to be trading the royal gamma in soon because he’s been hiding for two months lol.
