where did you put the stronger wave pump? i put mine on the side and it seems to stir up/move sand because it crosses with the return pump's flow.

I have the stronger wave pump on the side, right up near the surface and close to the front of the tank. This gives the surface water a nice ripple which makes the lights shimmer.

I also have no substrate so don't have to worry about sand :) When i first set up the tank i had bad algae issues that i just couldn't get rid of. after 6 months of battling, i took out the substrate entirely and bought my own RO/DI unit (rather than purchasing from water store). Algae was no longer an issue and i have just stuck with the bare bottom look.

What pump are you thinking about? I have the same tank and am considering upgrading the pump.

I originally considered a mighty jet mid size but the head room isn't great from what I heard.

I'm looking at either a sicce 2.0 or a jabao DC 2500 / 3000

Sicce 2.0 seems like a good choice as long as it fits.

Exactly - supplies much more flow than the stock pump while keeping good head room.

I'll probably use the stock pump for water changes or backup as it's super finicky

Howdy all!

My build will be backdated a little as I had posted it on my local NJ forum but I will post it all here now as well.

Background my brother has a 65 gallon tank for the passed 65 years and I finally mustered the courage to get my own... also my full time job (23) can now support it the way I want it to go.

So here goes!

March 17thth 2019 3 days after I decided it was time to join the hobby!

Wasn't spending $300 dollars on a stand and being that I am in construction.. I should be able to build one right?

Love the stand! I build a similar one for my mom's turtle tank, but I like yours better! should have went horizontal for the boards!

A job well done! I still need to get around to adding a knob. I like how your wood is darker than mine

Following! Going to transfer my 26g this weekend to my new 30l. Apprehensive about the transfer but excited too. Thanks to everyone who has given hints & tips so far.
You should make a build thread!

Are you using one or two? Do you find its hard to get the flow you need across the long length of the tank?
I currently use one on half power and find it reaches the other end of the tank. It's not as strong on the other end however, a stronger return pump would take care of this no problem

Have you confirmed that the 2.0 would fit?

I went with the sicce 2.0 as my return got it at a really low price !

I will be setting up an Apex classic soon to begin monitoring some stuff as well as my lights so I can sell my spectral controller.

All my frags are doing great ! Looking forward to fragging to grow out in frag tank soon

I can't find my yellow watchmen goby! After one day of being in the tank he's disappeared. I have a lid and all so he couldn't have jumped out so I imagine he's just hiding under the substrate for now. Flame angel is getting acclimated and becoming less skidish - he eats frozen mysis and pellets like a champ now.

How does the pump fit?
