ID cause of death if possible

I have had my purple tang in a QT tank and we have one week left in hypo at 35 days and he has died overnight. I have had him for 3 months and was treating for flukes as prazi wasnt working.

This fish had great color last night. However I did notice he was lingering in the corner. He didnt appear to touch the nori and he usually tears it up. He did come up and eat some spirulina brine last night.

Does it appear bacterial or fungal infection? I know its hard to ID disease on dead fish.

Disclaimer: the fish was NOT this thin before. Its like something drained his body. I might get laughed at for saying that but its true.

He was in a tank by his self and has been for about 3 months eating great and everything.

Havent seen any other symptoms at all. He is on my desk right next to me all day as I work from home.

I can’t say why it died, but the sudden emaciation is a key symptom. During hyposalinity, fish tend to bloat from the osmotic difference, causing mild edema. The opposite can happen under other circumstances - usually a rise in salinity. If that happens too quickly, the fish will dehydrate and become very skinny. I presume there was no rise in salinity though.

Liver or kidney dysfunction will also cause a fish to develop difficulty in maintaining proper fluid levels in their tissues. I can’t say for certain that this was the case here, but maybe…..

Agree , appears to be an internal issue. I see some tathering on fins, but may have been post death assuming there was no aggression going on within tank

Yeah no raise in salinity I top off every day with fresh to keep it at 1.009 I marked on the outside of the tank to make sure it stays at correct level

Yes sir the tattered fins were not there before and he is the only fish in this tank.
