I did see one person put out a review already: Sounds promising. Granted it is an NSI Beta Tester so may be a tad bit of bias but at least good to hear from someone actually using the product and not here say.

It blows my mind. They give stuff like this to new users who will shill their stuff. Not to people who will actually provide feedback that will make their product better.

Oh well. It’s one of the reasons I’m switching to hydros.
I believe they gave them out randomly to a select few as a thank you for their loyalty.

Giving them to influencers would result in more of the same.

Dude, it was a random drawing. Stop with the passive aggressive entitlement…

Where did you buy all your Neptune gear? How did they discover that you were a good customer? I have Neptune stickers all over my house! I would love an appreciation gift that's awesome congrats!
All from BRS over the last ~10 years

So its the 30th... set it up yet?
the support page literally JUST went live!
I have also been emailing my support contact, and she said the tasks are going live soon, the firmware update needs to be updated, and then it can be setup. -

See, most consider Hanna to be the gold standard. Thats why.
Consistency > Accuracy
Shouldn't care if its off a few ppm, as long as its consistently delivering the same results. If hanna reads 10ppm and np reads 15ppm, it doesn't matter as long as its consistently reading ~5ppm different. There will always be variances in testing equipment. Sending the same water sample to two ICP providers will see different results as well. Understand what your equipment is giving you and track trends not specific values.

ahh not mine yet!! what version are you updating to ? 5.12_5M24?
5.12 5O24
This AOS version:

  • includes full support for the Trident NP Nitrate and Phosphate Aquarium Water Analyzer.
  • includes updated Apex Local user interface, maintaining parity with the May 30 2024 update to Apex Fusion
After updating to this newest AOS, wait 5-10 minutes, then update any modules which are listed on the Modules List or other modules listed with the  symbol.

  1. Go to the Modules List in Apex Fusion or Apex Local.
  2. Click or tap on a module listed with the  symbol.
  3. In the Configuration area, select the Update Software option, then click or tap the orange Send  button.
  4. Wait for the module update to complete.
  5. Repeat Steps 2-4 for any additional modules listed with the  symbol.

I obviously understand that. But I have also found hanna and ICP's to match fairly close, every time.

This was more or less my point but I understand fellow hobbyist are set in their ways. Manual testing has the human factor to deal with. Did we empty the packet, did we get 10 ml water, did I shake for 2 minutes, casual, vigorously, did I see the titration change, etc.

Hope your day is well.

Don't forget the robot factor. Have you ever owned an automatic test before? I own an alkatronic, mastertronic, and reefbot lab...trust me, the robots aren't as consistent as you may think.

Yes. I actually own a Trident. I also have done plenty of software test automation and provisioning of infrastructure. So it isn't my first rodeo. I don't mean that condescending or confrontational.

There isn't anything I can say or do or suggest to stop fellow hobbyist from comparing numbers between test kits be it manual or automated. I do, however, find it amusing to see who puts what product as truth. There are just too many variables be it human factor, battery, reagent shelf life, temperature, calibration, and more. It is a rabbit hole I do not want to enter. This won't be unique to the NP either as we'll see it with Maven and Kamore, etc.

I will note that I have Hanna test kits while also keeping a bottle of Fauna Marin multi reference solution on hand. I also save my Trident calibration solutions and mark the date after use. Sometimes it does help to spot check when an anomaly pops up.

Hope your day is going well.

They are sold out. I ordered one around 2am.

So much for Apex is a failing platform rhetoric :grimacing-face:
Hard to draw any useful conclusions unless you know how many they had. If they had 200 available and sold out in short order that’s one thing. If they had 5 ……

Well we don't really know that answer as a hobbyist. However there was a video a week or so back that showed a bit of someone walking the warehouse floor. In the video they showed a couple pallets full of NP's. So my guess is they had more than 200. There should be no surprise as to the popularity of the NP.

The only thing really to question is how many went into the hands of hobbyist vs those trying to flip them and make a couple bucks.

I have built software for 20 years along w infra....doesn't matter. The margin of error between the current robot and hanna tests is so small it's irrelevant. The same issues you note for humans, the robots deal with too.

Did we empty the packet = did my needle clog and not get enough reagent
Did we get 10 ml water = are the pumps calibrated, have they strayed, are the tubes worn
Did I shake for 2 minutes = is the algorithm correct, is it interpolating correctly
Did I see the titration change = is the sensor calibrated
...
etc

Again, I have found the hanna testers to be the most consistent and similar to various ICP's

Well we don't really know that answer as a hobbyist.
Thus, my point: hard to draw any useful conclusions about popularity or not - particularly after only one day. If I were handicapping the 'race', I would expect the NP to be successful for Neptune ..... despite all the hand wringing :). I am personally on-the-fence, particularly given the could-grow-them-in-a-bathtub nature of my current softie dominated tank ..... but I am a sucker for a neat piece of kit, so .......

I am pretty sure they oversold. I just contacted support asking why my unit wasn't ready for pickup yet (BRS is usually very fast for pickup readiness) and this is what I was told:

Me: Was this a preorder and not a sale? I am a little confused.
Support: No problem!
Support: It is not a preorder, however there are limited quantities and production has had some delays.

Finally got the firmware update today, and set the Trident NP up, besides wiring and running the tubes, the actual setup process in Fusion took about an hour.

The videos were very well presented, and heavy emphasis on wearing gloves when handling the reagents.

I am also using a glass waste container bc I don't have a HDPE 2 Container. The waste solution in the reagents kit is a chaulky powder that needs RO water added. Unfortunately the walk through videos state to not dump the waste liquid down the drain, but provides no direction afterwards.

Other than the initial setup the unit works just like the original trident, however the tests take about 25% longer. And the schedule default is once a day.

As far as the readings go, I was receiving 0 Nitrates with my Hanna checker, but my po4 results were a little higher on the Trident (+.03) but it's been over a week since I tested po4. I would like to assume the Trident has higher accuracy, only time will tell. Once the Trident takes a few more measurements I will run the calibration fluid and post results here.

Please let me know if you have any questions, or need me to clarify.
