Hey guys!

We were affected by Hurricane Beryl and went without power for 6 1/2 days! Thankfully though I was prepared!! I was able to use two battery operated bubblers when we lost power in the middle of the night until the storm had passed and we were able to go grab the small generator I purchased for the tank. The little generator kept the tank running on life support for the remaining time and I am happy to report that we had not a single loss- not even a snail!

With that said- they are projecting we are going to have an active season. While Beryl was only a Cat 1 it did severe damage to the area and I can imagine what a 2+ would cause. This raises the question on what we would do if we were hit with a stronger storm and had to evacuate the area. Since these storms change paths so quickly I am trying to prepare for a situation where if we had to jump and run and I had no choice but to leave the tank how I would best help the fish survive until we could get back home.

In the event we have time to gather our belongings and take them with us- what would be the bare minimum to transport and prepare for having them displaced from their tank for a length of time? We have two large dogs and a cat that would also be traveling so there wouldn't be a ton of room to bring anything that isn't essential for any of us.

WOW! Thinking about an extended evacuation plan is good to prepare. You don't mention where you are relative to the coast, but I think of my sister on the coast of Florida. She moved next door to a raised/elevated house and has a contract on her now-old-to-her home next door so future ground floor water worries will be the next people's problem (sadly). Depending your risk of storm surge with larger hurricane, perhaps also plan for elevated generator with elevated fuel tank(s) able to go whatever timeframe you might be away.

It sounds like you came through this storm relatively well, and I'm so glad for you! Since moving from the coast to DFW, I have been delighted not to bail water or otherwise suffer hurricane/tropical storms wrath. Here is a TX "HOWDY" from your DFW neighbor.

We are about 35 minuets north of Galveston and I actually grew up in DFW area! Small world!!

Thankfully our house has never flooded even during Harvey when we saw unprecedented amounts of flooding in the area! We were certainly blessed during this storm- the town saw LOTS of damage but we were one of the few that had no damage to the house and just lost one very large tree.

This was my first time experiencing a hurricane with a tank and man I think I was more stressed about all the animals being okay than anything else!
