Hurricane beryl killed my tank

Hello you guys! I just recently got hit by hurricane beryl and going on day 5 without power, unfortunately my tank was affected as well and all of my livestock died. I had some really nice stuff and even a very old YWG that my wife loved. I was wondering if anything in the Houston area had any corals that they don’t want or had some growing too much and are trying to get rid of? If so It would mean a lot to get a couple or even one! I was discouraged and almost wanted to give up the hobby but tough times will come and things will always get better.

Living in South Florida the threats of power outages a real concern and why not erecting my main until I solve my power outage plan. Also why I'm designing it to run on least juice once power is gone including fighting the rising home temps that will climb or pass 88. One pump and Fuge light all that needs to be on plus possibly fans and and ATO if that's more energy efficient then running a chiller to keep temps 83 max.

Wow! So very sorry to hear about your loss. Good for you to pick yourself up and want to get going again! I sure hope you can find some people close by willing to help you out. If I lived closer, I would certainly have a few things for you.

Sorry to hear about your loss- wish you’re near me and will definitely help replenish your tank. Good luck toward your recovery and hope the everyone is safe.

For your next build, I would suggest battery-backed wavemakers, followed by a gas-powered generator. My MP40s can run for 3 days and I have a Honda 2000i generator that can run for weeks, depending on gas availability. It can also power the fridge, TV, Internet, and other electronics.

If you're running on batteries and using pumps/wavemakers for aeration, an air pump/air stone will give you the same dissolved oxygen levels but at 1/7th the power consumption.

I luckily had a generator and was able to keep my tank circulating with my return pump and MP40s. But the temperature got up to 84.5F and I was starting to get worried, gave in and got a portable AC unit and got the temps down to 80F. Everything survived, finally got power yesterday night.

I had a couple battery powered pump/air stones but wasn’t enough. Now I know next time to be more prepared since I do live in Texas and we tend to get tropical storms/hurricanes somewhat often. This would be the first time I’ve had an experience where all of my livestock had passed , but I’m sure good things will come. Thank you guys for your kind words!!! The reefing will continue
