Like the kalk paste injected Thru the middle into the base will kill them. They will keep showing up until you kill them all. My matted filefish is 100% reef safe. Ignored the lps and sps. Loves Nori

I had a pretty bad majano infestation a couple of years ago. In my experience, you can never really eliminate them, but can control their population to the point where it's no longer a serious issue.

I tried the majano wand and that didn't work. It was too difficult to actually kill them and most of the time they were just injured and would return just as strong in a few days.

I bought a filefish, bicolor angel and some wrasses and never saw them eating one.

Aiptasia X was the only method I found to actually help reduce the population. I applied it with a Julian's Thing tool and literally smothered them. It took a long time and many days going at it but eventually, i was able to get most of them.

About a year later I broke down the tank and although no majanos were visible in the display, I found many majanos in the undersides of the rocks and other non-visible locations.

Get on this quick, their population can explode in a short amount of time.

Good luck.

CCB will only work on Aiptasia, mine is an assassin. Majanos require human intervention. I have tried a number of things mentioned here for in tank treatment with varied success, white vinegar targeted into the mouth was the most effective and least messy but requires on going doses. Rock removal and a paring knife was most effective but required rock removal :( Have yet to try the wand.

IME, semilarvatus and raccoon butterfly will eat them but they may eat your corals as well. I had better luck with baby semilarvatus as they did not bother other corals with the exception of polyps. I have to mention that the majanos will return if you remove those fish that eat them. Good luck!

I quit worrying about Aiptasia in my tank. They tend to show up and get out competed anyway. I have used Kalk and the Red Sea brand Aiptasia killer with limited effect. It all depends on how much diligence you want to have. You will need to make a multiple attempt to really get rid of them.
If you have a mature tank like mine, you are looking at doing way more harm than good with some of the methods listed above.

Mix kalk with water and inject it in their mouths. You can do a few every day. It may take a little while, but is very affective. Just don’t go crazy with them or it will spike your ph

I have killed majanos with lemon juice and with vinegar. Just fill a syringe with either one and squirt them. Keep it away from other corals though, as it can kill them as well. Cheap and easy though, might be worth a try for you.

Will the Aptasia X harm my hermit crabs?
Nope. I just used it about 10 days ago for eliminating aiptasia, in multiple locations, with no ill effects on anything else in my tank. I don't know how well it works for majanos but it was pretty amazing on aiptasia. They literally imploded in a matter of seconds, shriveled and a week later you can't even see where they were. Good product.

I use a laser pen. It is a 460nm blue laser. Had to get stronger batteries to last longer. Sure is fun hearing them sizzle. But you have to be careful. When I first got it I reflected the laser off the glass and burned my lip. Still have a scare and haven't had hair grow back in over 3 years.
