So I knew it was a stupid idea, but I tried taking out the Neptune AFS food compartment without removing the entire unit. Yup, all the remaining food fell into the tank, basically half full. This was yesterday. I’m running a skimmer and reefmat, my phos was already a bit high at 0.10, and now it’s at 0.19 today. I just did a 15g water change before this all happen. Total volume is 145g. I’m seeing 0.19 phos, 20.4 nitrate, 0 ammonia, 8.8 alk, 8 ph.

I’m thinking I’ll go ahead and do a 20g water change tomorrow. Anything else I should be doing?

This tank is only a bit over a month running, cycled using my old tanks rock and water. I’m not too concerned, but I wanted to get feedback just to be safe. I appreciate any help!

0.19ppm is OK. Don’t feel bad or panic. Many great tanks are at or above this level.

You can use some GFO to bring it to 0.05-0.10ppm if that makes you feel better. It’s cheaper than changing water for the sole purpose of lowering PO4.

dang, I literally started mixing already and I did it inside because it’s too hot outside. Well … shoot. maybe I can hold off on doing the water change for a few days while it circulates.
