Finding a reefer who has never dealt with nuisance algae would be a challenge. There seem to be endless methods, tricks, and good old-fashioned luck involved in handling this common issue in reefing. How are you dealing with it?

If you're dealing with a nuisance right now, how are you fighting it? Let's discuss it!

currently dealing with gha in a nano tank, added phosbond to a reactor and took my weekly wc from 3 gallons to 5 gallons. I do manual removal everyday and i recently added 10 blue leg hermits and 10 astrea snails to the tank, i already owned a long spine urchin so between them they do a good enough job and im seeing improvments every day.

Let it go. Scrape the front view and I will add a Foxface if it gets too crazy.
No need to sweat the natural process.

Installed a UV Sterilizer from the beginning. Kept lights off the 1st month, and then lights low for the next 5 months while adding fish, snails, hermits and a Counch. Dosed Microbacter 7 once a week for 1st 7 months.

I avoided the uglies all together. But when I turned up the lights and started adding corals and did get Byprosis sprouting. A Fluconozole treatment took care of that. At 8 months now I have no nuisance algae and Coralline algae is is coming along nicely.

I’m a little over two months in and my CUC and Macroalgae combo has done a great job keeping algae tame. However, I did just start seeing a little bit of bryopsis in the past week. It comes up every day but most of the patches are mowed down within a couple day. I’m hoping it stays in balance!

Anyone ever seen this algae before? I have look all of the internet and bough Julian Sprung book on algae and I cant find it anywhere! Its dense and flowery looking!

Also wondering if anyone has ever had algae r on new acrylic frag racks? I acquired a lot of new corals and this redish stuff appeared all over the racks. Two of them finally got covered in coraline so the algea disappeared after that but I have one tank that wont grow coraline and its 4 years old! I dont get why so therefore I cant keep that film type algae off the racks and smothered my highend zoas!

I have standing racks on sand bed close to class and it gets all over the glass too! Chemiclean does nothing! Its driving me nuts! I dont know what to do about it. i dose mb clean and was dosing mb7 every day for a while!

Do you have better pictures of it? It's hard to tell what it is from those pictures

Don't have any in the current tank (well, other than a little dust algae on the front panel); had very little in the last tank either. I employ a few key tangs (chevron, black), an ATS, and significant monthly water changes.
