Hello,

Since a few days, I have a spot of green algae on my sand bed. I cleaned it out this weekend but it's slowly coming back. Ironically, I only have it in this area, everywhere else the sand bed is clean. I think it looks like Cyano, but I'm not quite sure, and I'm definitely not sure what it's so localized.

Here's my water:

Temp 27C - It's been hot here, I've ordered a fan. :)
Salinity 1025
dKH 7.8
Phosphate 0.03
Nitrate 25
Calcium 480
Magnesium 1350

The tank is a Waterbox 20 with a Prime16HD light.

Little update, the spot is under the return nozzle and I do feed All for Reef in to the return chamber. Could this be the cause of the localized algae bloom under the nozzle?

I had something very similar about 3 months after tank set up. Blowing sand with baster would disrupt and it would come back a few days later. I let it be, it spread and then turned brown and a bit more stingy in its slimy nature. At this point I began using MicroBacter Clean and left my lights off for a few days. It cleared up and I have not seen it since. This was 3 months ago.

I believe it is under the return nozzle because there is a lack of flow there. Probably green slime algae..green cyano.
When i get one spot like that.. I put a small rock that size & a coral there to cover that whole spot. What coral do you like that likes those conditions? Lower flow and thst par.
However, I would try a sea spin first.. Ivwill never setup a cube again without one. I also have a tiny micro hydor powerhead tied right under the return facing left and slightly forward.. on a switcher ten on ten off.. attached to a timer.. hour on hour off. Lol. Best cube flow setup ever tho. I'll post pic.

I second the MicroBacter. Had a cyano outbreak across rocks and substrate a little less than a month ago. Reduced my white light to less than 50% and followed the directions on the bottle; about 90% cleared up. The sand was clear in less than a week and mostly under control on the rocks, while not completely gone, yet, it has not come back.

Little update on this. I came back from a 2 week vacation and it's kind of sorted itself. There's still small areas with some green but overall its not spread nor gained in density. It seems to kind of naturally coexist and balance itself out.

This is what I came home to after 2 weeks of not doing a thing, no Mg and Ca dosing, a heatwave (34C ambient temp) and my ATO not working. I did scrape the glass.

Not bad I'd say. :p
