So I added a significant livestock load of fish and corals recently, we immediately got the following, which led me to believe it is Cyano, but Chemiclean did nothing and was dosed twice in 48 hours (the "algae" got worse it seems, not better, but the red hair-like mats on the live rock disappeared, just not on the sand at all. I'll put my attemps thus far, below the follo wing Cyano description.
-Why I think it's Cyano and not diatoms:
The red-slime mats are stringy hair-like growing in patches around the sand, in low-flow areas. That stuff, developed during a 12 hour,100% intensity, professional light template, and spread really quick around the oolite sand and then made it's way on to some live rock and hard corals in the 2 days before I started chemiclean/water change/microbact7 and vacuumed up the infected top-layer and disposed.
1) The red-slime hair-like bloom, is photosensitive, has no bubbles
2) The chemiclean took it off the rocks, but not the sand
3) It dies down when lights are off, but comes back full-force when lights are on (cut-out white light, it did nothing)
So, now my attempt so far:
1) I left my awesome, octo 115 skimmer on without the cup, tp oxygenated the water during chemiclean dosing
2) I put my Nero 7 near the surface to further oxygenate
3) I directed my Nero 5 and Nero 3 to move flow across the sand trying not to displace it, so it is close, but not too close
4) I increased the daytime flow rates to above 60% on all Neros (my corals and fish are ticked), after 10pm they go down to 20-40% until 10Am
*5*) I DOSED THE 110.4 WATERBOX WITH EXACT MEASUREMENTS, THEN DOSED AGAIN ON DAY 2 WHEN NOTHING WORKED, IT IS NOW DAY 3
Aside from what died from the rocks, the questionable Cyano is prevalent on the sand still. Am I dealing with Diatoms now, or do I need to redo everything in 48 hours? (All parameters are good, Nitrates and phosphates are not a problem)
