Cyano? Help?

Hi. I’m 5 months into my tank and believe I have cyano. I know my flow is poor and just ordered two more powerheads to support my mp4 and Nero 3. (I know what a mess…)

I had my phosphates and nitrates bottom out and low alk. Today however I tested and I’m sitting at

.06 phosphates
4.3 nitrates
8.9 alk

It’s an improvement from last week where I had nothing and a 6.7 alk…. But what should I do now?

A picture of what you believe to be Cyanobacteria would help in giving the correct ID & help others in giving the proper advice on how to move forward. Numbers look good. Background into your system could help, like lighting system, light schedule, inhabitants, husbandry practices, volume, etc. sounds like the system doesn’t have long since finishing the nitrogen cycle & will be going through the ugly algae faces, all natural & the process of maturing.

49 gal sump.

Have t done a water change in two weeks to boost nitrates

Definitely cyano. Any Cyanobacteria meds will take care of it. If you’re aiming to boost NO3 numbers, I would also increase feeding portion to two cubs of frozen. One cube seems too small of a feeding portion for 8 fish, still considering the pellets. As feeding increases, waste will also increase, NO3 goes up but will also cause more rapid algae growth. Have you put together a solid CUC to take care of excess waste & to trim algae????

Yeah. All my fish are babies. I have a few hermits 15 nassarius and like 20 astrea snails. So even though my fish don’t eat all the food from the cubes do two?

Ok. What do you consider babies? Asking because the fish listed tend to have a voracious appetite, honestly curious why food is left behind. Could be the size of the food, size of fish, type of food & can also be the reason for the Cyanobacteria.

Another factor could stem from swinging parameters but also considering that the system is only 5 months in & still developing.

Ok. What do you consider babies? Asking because the fish listed tend to have a voracious appetite, honestly curious why food is left behind. Could be the size of the food, size of fish, type of food & can also be the reason for the Cyanobacteria.

Another factor could stem from swinging parameters but also considering that the system is only 5 months in & still developing.

All of them are 2” or less. Although growing rapidly.
