This is mine i got a few weeks ago. My first time having gonis. Unfortunatly i didnt know to ask t have the polyps blown to see the flesh on the skeleton. So the 150$ in store credit i got for a huge colony of acropora... i spent 75$ of it in this red one. And the red goni when i got home half of its flesh was dead. Yet the polyps were all out in the store. I messaged the store when i got home and of course they go ( it wasnt like that when you left) i hate dishonest lying store like that.

But ive had it for 3 weeks and it seems it hasnt gotten worse. It might be healing actually.

And my other green.blue gonipora is about the size of a basebal. It extended fully in 30 min in my tank. But then temps in my tank went to 85f before i realized it and it shrunk for like a week. Temps went back down to 76f when i unplugged my heater.. and it started coming back out. I got a new heater and set my tank back to 80-82f like i always keep it.

It still hasnt come back out like it used too. I noticed my fish keep swiming around it and since theyre big tangs i think they are iritating it. So i moved it to a more shadowed cave.. but that didnt work. So i moved it from the sand bed to a rock mid way in the tank. It seems to be doing better now. But still 30% of it wont fully extend. It sucks. Hopefully with more time itll come back out.

What do you guys think ? I think they prefer colder water too like 76-77.. unfirtunatly when i go to those temps ich seems to statt taking over wuickly on my fish. If i go to 82f ich seems to go away mostly. So im fighting temps for one coral vs ich for my fish. My other corals dont care if temps go that high. But im guessing gonis are a colder water coral.

But look how oretty this green.blue goni was when i got it. Now its shrunken in some and the little tentacles on the arms dont stretch out.

Was worried about on of my flower pots, moved it away from a larger toadstool that’s in its unhappy phase and it perked right up.

New member here! :yo: I didn't see a show-off thread for goniopora, but hopefully there are enough of us succeeding with flower pot corals to warrant one, because I would LOVE to see more of these! Here's mine:

Made this close-up pic my screen saver.
It's a bit pinker than it looks in person; I'd say the true color is halfway between the pink in close-up shots and the red you see in my FTS:

I don't know which species I have, but it's defied the difficult label these carry, since I do nothing special for it. I have low to medium flow in my tank and broadcast feed once or twice a week. I see it catch food each time, but I don't make any effort to target feed.

I bought it as a tiny frag in a local shop about a year and a half ago:

One of my best coral purchases to date! Anyone else have one doing well?
