I am not sure when I am going to upgrade my tanks. I have a 32 gallon AIO (saltwater) and a 75 gallon African cichlid tank. It's nice having a freshwater and a saltwater setup. I have been debating for a few months now, converting my 75 gallon to a saltwater as well. I am just not ready to give up my cichlids though.

I put 1-3 years
Have a 100 and 125, one home one work. Goal is to be able to successfully frag all acros from home tank and have them settled into work tank. So if move goes bad And I lose some colonies I have a back up.
I know how I am I won’t be happy until I reach the maximum tank size I can fit in my downstairs. Will have to be custom and a corner tank so been thinking 8ft long then at corner 8-10 going other way. When I do it I will post progression pictures in build thread.
Reason I want to go bigger is in a year or two my corals will be outgrowing space, I have a couple of fish that I know will eventually out grow tank and I like them and think they would enjoy more room.

When I upgrade I intend to convert the 32g tank into an amenome only tank. And start from scratch in a whole new cycled tank

I voted 1-3 years, I’d like to upgrade this year, but im sure I won’t get the money saved up in time. The 40b is getting small.

The plan is a sca 60x24x24 150g tank with an external shadow overflow, some size sump underneath. Custom 72” long steel stand that I’m going to build - longer so I can potentially upgrade to a 180 in the future if I want. Mostly I want that extra 1’ of space under the stand for all the equipment and containers for top off, dosing etc. I’ll build my own removable wood paneling etc.

I’m figuring around $4k for the budget to get this setup going, then additional stuff to get it all dialed in with apex and other automation to come in the future.

My first tank is 2 months old, no corals yet, three fish and some CUC, and three new fish in quarantine. Already planning the upgrade! :p

Hey all! Just wanted to share my reading experience and new build! Many people in the introduction section greeted me and I am grateful to be a part of this awesome community! I have to say, yall are bad influences!

I currently have a little JBJ nano 24 (dont mind the diatoms, got a rock with brown algae and winning the fight now) but reading some of these builds went ahead and bought a Red Sea Reefer 425xl. It arrives Monday! Stay tuned for the build photos! I will create a post in the build section asap. Thanks again for being so helpful and kind! Wee need mor reefer addicts in this world,...!

I’ve been in the reef hobby since 1988 and in all that time I don’t think I’ve ever not been planning for a bigger tank. I’ve a 450 now, but it’s already too small. Eventually, time and health willing, I’ll build a really huge tank.

I really want a bigger tank, but my house design means I need a structural engineer to design a partial house rebuild. Before moving here, I had a 6x2x2 tank. Part of the deal with the better half for having to move here was that I could upgrade to a 10 x3x3, but she didn’t mention Cali houses aren’t really designed for that kind of weight... 4 years later I’m stuck with my 150G.

I always looked at my first tank as just that, knew I would upgrade eventually. Mostly for space, I want a longer and taller tank. Feel cramped in my 50 gal now. However, after all I have been through with tgis first tank there is no way I could get rid of it. So I see a second tank in my future!

I marked 1-3 years. I currently have an IM Nuvo 30 Black (aka rimless 36”x15”x13” with a tinted back panel), and my plan is to go to a 42”x24”x11” (48G) peninsula lagoon style tank from Reef Savvy or Miracles. I’m planning on putting the order in next year after buying a house and getting out of apartments.

In the longer term (3+ years) I really hope to eventually go to a larger version of this and get a 120”x42”x18” tank which would be around 390G.
