With a move somewhere on the horizon and me still being a beginner, I have only vague plans to upgrade my tanks from a 20 to possibly a 55 or 75 or possibly get a 2nd tank, but I am fully planning on upgrading so I can have some larger biodiversity in the future. I'd like a Red Sea Reefer at some point. Those are slick looking.

Hello folks! Hope your day is off to a good one. I'm sure it's going great if you're planning on a new tank upgrade soon! I thought we could talk about that today and what you're planning on doing! So please let us know by answering the following questions:

1. Are you planning to upgrade your aquarium to a BIGGER aquarium soon or at some point down the road?

2. Why are you planning for a bigger tank? Why the upgrade?

If you have any photos of a new upgrade please share!

I currently have a 48gal I use for frags/grow out and a 180gal mixed reef. In the 80's I had a dozen plus 150-210gal tanks, each featured one large angel, then mixed. As much as I want to upgrade I will refrain from doing it unless I have space and funds to go 1200gal or larger. I've spent hundreds of thousands over the years. I had cancer 20 years ago and recent heart attack 11 weeks ago, followed by lock down. Was informed I no longer have a job to return to. Broke, 34k in medical bills.... not sure what's coming next. If the opportunity comes to go big, will grab it, however the constant upgrading of lights, tanks, equipment is over I think. Been buying used and all works great at 1/4 price.

2 months and 1 day into my 29g build.

Already gathering equipment for a 4 foot tank. Got sump, flow, ATO, and a few more things worked out. Trying to decide on lights now. Hoping to get it all worked out and purchased in the next few months.

Never like to say never, so hovered over the never Option then i mentaly voted for the Probably never but never say never option

I started with a nano then "upgraded" to a larger reef but a decade later moved back to a nano sized reef and much prefer keeping a nano, it is somehow so much more....intimate and zen like..than a larger reef

My husband graduates next year and we will potentially be moving (will miss the LFS here so much!) so I plan to upgrade with a tank at the new place. I am hoping on either a Waterbox 220 or to pick up a nice used system in the 300ish range. It just depends what's for sale in the area.

I basically need more room for more wrasse.

I am very nervous about moving all my fish and corals!! So that will be another huge stressful under-taking. I plan on donating most of our furniture as moving sucks!!! and taking my fish with me.... so just imagine an empty new house/apartment with no where to sleep or sit.... just a fish tank, a computer on the floor... and some pots and pans. :p Got to hold on to what's important ;)

I feel adding tanks is an upgrage.
Your upgrading, water use, saltwater mixing, doesing, rock, sand, lights, etc.

But yes plan on adding a 1000g to the home within 1-3 years.
Just did a super upgrade to my RO/DI system.
I like to start with the ugly boring stuff first.
Makes it easier when you have all the life suport in ace and dialed in that can handle more than you will ever have.

Yes within 1-3 years

2. Why are you planning for a bigger tank? Why the upgrade?

When I came back into the hobby I wanted to start small and ensure I would re-find the enjoyment I once had in the hobby. When I was previously in the hobby I went from a 20 to a 72 to a 150 very rapidly. This time I plan to make it a slower journey as I got in over my head upgrading so quickly and not thinking before i jumped.

That said I hope to upgrade to a 120 in about the next year and a half.

Right now I have a 20 gallon Red Sea nano AIO and a 29 gallon from Petco. I want to replace both of them with 2 Waterbox 130.4 tanks flanking my TV and a Waterbox 220.6 in the main area of my house. Eventually I plan on celebrating getting a heart transplant by getting a tank in my bedroom where my medical equipment currently resides.

I’m currently in the midst of the slowest upgrade ever. I currently have a 29 biocube but I bought a 40 breeder from a friend 1 1/2 years ago. I don’t plan to have it officially up and running until next February or March. I’m slowly acquiring gear and planning how I want to set it up. One reason it’s going slow is because I decided to start with all new rock. It was tough decision, but I have colonial hydroids and hope to avoid transporting them to a new system. I already have my rock work cemented together and cooking in water. I’m then going to start adding bacteria and ghost feeding in about a month. I’m then going to set up the new tank fallow and cycle for 4 - 5 months staring around October. Then I’ll slowly transfer fish and corals over from my current display. A nice long cycle will hopefully help the new system mature better. I think I will probably upgraded again in about 5-6 years to something around 120-160.

I am stil in equipment buying mode for a 200 gallon tank I started on 4 months ago. My last tank was 75 gallons.

I went to a larger tank as a means of having less trouble maintaining a stable ecology. 200 gallons is easier to maintain than 75.
