Well said Glenn! All are very valid points.This is the skimmer I am thinking of purchasing. If you look closely it has Boss Hog air stones which so far have been in operation for 2 years without replacement, only periodic cleaning. They are supposed to have 0.25mm bubble size.

look nice, not so expensive as needlewheel ???
when you get it you schould compare the bubbles to a wooden aistone. i think that micropore stone is more consistent, but in The beginning the wood will deliver finer bubbles. so if you get nutrient issues, temporary using wooden air diffusers could be a option.
