Hey Reefers!

After thinking about getting into the hobby for the last couple of years and lurking on this site for a few months, I have taken the plunge and ordered a white Red Sea Reefer 250 G2+ during the Memorial Day sale!! Take it from a long term reefer who has done both methods, ditch the rockscape and invest in high quality live rock. You'll thank me later. Let the eventual coral growth be your scape and you'll have many fewer problems. Ignore the fear mongering about pests. The ones that are TRULY pests are easy to deal with.

Yes! Live rock all the way. Even “pests” can be fun. I have a mantis that’s from some rock I put in when getting my 90 converted to reef from fresh and doesn’t bother anyone, just hangs out and eats the occasional snail plus frozen. Plus the several corals that came on the rocks…

Hello and I set up a 170 6 months ago so fresh troubleshooting here. Unless you have other plans...change the 1 gallon ato reservoir into a refugium and use a 5 gal water jug for your reservoir or the slim fit red sea container.

I also tore my rock work apart 4x. Do not rush it is my best advice. I was so concerned about speed because I transplanted rock and water from a friend I rushed it. Go slow and enjoy it. As requested though...

That is great advice! I was thinking about getting the slim fit red sea container after my wallet recovers from the initial purchase. :D

For only having it up for 6 months, your tank looks great! You have a lot of livestock. What kind of zoa is the blue one close to the front on a frag plug?

This is my first attempt at a rock scape. The cardboard and blue towel are the dimensions of my tank. I would love some feedback!
