Currents are ever changing in the ocean, so many alternate current to help replicate this in our tanks, but do you do this specifically for a "night-time" period?

Whether to ease currents while fish sleep, or just to add more randomness, would love to know what different people do, and why!

my bare bottom tank has a cleaning cycle that involves my gyres alternating to push stuff up from the bottom over the weir. the cycle is at a reduce intensity to hopefully not disturb the inhabitants.
