Tell us about the mountain bikes!

I crashed mine last thanksgiving and swapped out for a gravel bike and have been thrilled. It’s cool to crank uphill on a carbon road bike with fat tires.
I came to gravel from road. it's a great hobby.
Not yet, been spending time doing filtration preparation for the big sump swap and riding a ton of mountain bikes…

I guess with no leaks I should finish off that too… soon!!
bikes are fun too.

I help coach my daughters high school mountain bike team. We ride with the kids 3-4 times a week right now getting ready for race season. It’s the best!!

My wife also just bought us gravel bikes for a 100 mile MS ride from Logan, Utah to Preston, Idaho and back… that was hard and fun too!

I get why roller mats are popular and the top choice. But from an economic and wasteful stand point, I find it unsustainable. The idea of cleaning and re-using filter socks might be somewhat laborsome but so much cheaper and better in the long run.

Having such a large tank, you're already accepting the fact that it's going to require a lot of your time in routine maintenanceand cleaning. What's cleaning another 10 filter socks amongst everything else?

Now, make me a roller mat that can automatically clean itself and I will change my opinion.

Man aren’t all those filter socks going to be annoying? I can’t go back to socks after using roller mat
I think I am going to make the filter sock tray an insert so I can pull it out and drop something else in there if I want to change it to a roller mat or a drum filter one day... right now I'm just looking to add a bubble trap and the ability to do some mechanical filtration to polish the water when it's needed...

Yeah, but then he has to build a Reefmat that can handle queen sheets.
True! I would need a pretty big roll of filter floss and a quick moving motor

Good point! I am having a hard time keeping up with the maintenance as it is with all the other things we have going right now.

A rotary drum filter is the closest to a self cleaning roller mat that I know of... used in koi ponds a lot...

Rotary drum filter. Do it!
That was on my list of things I paid BW for and never got!

Need a good SW option... not sure I want to take the time to engineer and build a big one for the tank...

That is my first choice for sure!! Love that idea!!

Know of any good salt water options that don't break the bank? ;)

I definitely want you to engineer and build one :)

What ever happened with that lawsuit?

Somebody had a really good thread with a rotary drum filter on a reef tank. I can't remember if it was here or RC though... well a quick search has revealed it was, in fact, on this site.

There’s an RDF in this thread as well.
