I'm doing an aggressive dosing of 1ml per 10G every morning and evening, day one no change.

He said "Day one, no change." That is why I asked for a followup.

Why is it every time someone comes up with a solution to a problem, people try to apply it to Hair Algae? I don't get it. They are not the same. Derbasia is a problem all its own, but it is something that can be controlled with some meticulous effort for a week or two. After that, it's done and gone.

This is about getting rid of dinoflagellates.

Well considering there was a lot of chatter earlier in this thread about HA i was just checking to see if there was any luck...I underdstand they are not the same thing but when dipped in a saltwater soltuion containing very little H202 the HA dies. Just curious - sorry.

You're right. Sorry, my mistake. That is what was done by Justin Credible, dipping frag plugs that were infested. I forgot.

yeah i don't think it would do much on a display maybe if dosed in very large amounts and then it would prolly kill everything...:( it works great on frag plugs if you can dip but not anyway that i know of on a display....

Troy - did you clean off your glass, overflows, etc while you treated your tank? Or did you just leave it and let the peroxide do it's thing. Just wondering since you said it would only effect free swimming dinos. Will it "dissolve" what's already attached to the rocks, sand, and tank surfaces?

ok, reading this whole thread, i came up with the following

1, this does work on dinos
2, this has worked for some on cyano
3, as a dip on frag plugs this kills hair algae
4, nobody knows for sure as why this works LOL...

i just tried it, and i will see what happens..

I'm estimating that my new system holds 300g of liquid volume, when you take out for displacement of rock and sand, using internal measurements. I had what appeared to be dinoflagellates forming on rock and particularly gorgonians.

Each morning, I added 30 ml of Hydrogen peroxide via my sump in the skimmer section. The ORP of the tank rose accordingly. I did a daily dose for 8 days in a row, and it got rid of it. It's been weeks since I treated my tank, and the gorgonians look great, and the bubbly snot looking stuff I was seeing in my overflow I cleaned away manually. I'm a firm believer in removing what looks bad rather than wishing it away; in doing so you reduce the volume of the offending issue from the system which should help prevent its spreading.

Hello,

After reading this thread and after three month fighting Dinos I decided to try the H2O2.

It's been 5 days now since I am dosing and what can I say???

THANKS  !!!

Everything almost gone. In the second day no more Dinos in the Rock and after 5 it's almost gone from the Sand.

Never cleaned the glass during the process and my water never seamed clearer even using GAC.

Cheers,

Rui Manuel Gaspar

I’ve had good (better than expected) results fromH2o2 & heavy water changes.

I have a mature tank (9 years) and recently had a bad bout of dinoflagellates I could not shake. I’m a bit conservative when it comes to additives/remedies/dosing so I was a bit apprehensive about this approach. I did a bit of research and felt that H202 wasn't going to do irreparable harm so I decided to give it a try.

I know this sounds like a slick commercial tag line but I went from brown snot covering nearly everything to bright white sand & crystal clear water in just 5 days. Let’s hope it continues. Knock wood.

Here’s what I did on my 120G (est 100G total volume including sump)…

Day 1
2MIL of H2O2 (cautious)
15G Water Change
Full MH&T5 light 12+ Hours to drive PH up to 8.35+ (for me, the Dino bloom occurred each day when T5s came on and PH was <8.15)
Saw no improvement but not worse

Day 2
5MIL of H2O2
20G Water Change
Full MH&T5 light 12+ Hours to drive PH up to 8.35+
Siphoned up all the dinos in display as part of the water change

Day 3
7MIL of H2O2 (the nems seemed to hate it but recovered quickly)
15G Water Change
No lights
No noticeable dino growth

Day 4
2MIL of H2O2
4 Hours of light (both MH & T5 – did not run T5 only for any length of time)
No noticeable growth

Day 5
2MIL H2O2
Regular light cycle (10 hr T5 & 7 Hr T5+MH)
No noticeable growth, clear water & clean sand
