Coach63,...did you decide on the Cadlights tank?
Not yet- I am wavering back and forth from a cadlights and a 350 reefer system. I'm looking for a good tank and a nice looking stand but to be honest, either system I will gut and put other equipment in. I guess I might wait until Black Friday sales as I still need to do a lot of plumbing and support work for the floor first, So I have time.

You can't go wrong with the Reefer! Overall better quality than Cadlights in my opinion but more $ per gallon.

Any other tanks you guys recommend? Like I said, not necessarily looking for an AIO but can't do a Reef Savvy or any custom tanks right now.

Between my phone and the computer, I'm almost continually on the forum. I "watch" the public ETRC and VRJ forums continually. As much as my tank, I enjoy the community of reefers - an aspect I did not foresee when I started.

I still believe this is the best reef forum out there. I read and comment, but only if I'm confident in my response. I appreciate this forum more than most as there is very little criticism. Nothing worse than being on a forum and some one criticizes you rather than encourages you with feedback. This is a great forum!! I also believe having a good title for your post is important. Seeing 'Dead' did catch my eye!

With work, the twins, and house hunting life has been super busy.....I think once we find the right home and move I'll be able to devote more time to the forum and the club.
This is the latest I've been awake in weeks.....and I'm half asleep...time to go to bed!

I'm sooo pleased to see people stepping up their "posting" game. Keep the posts coming, don't be afraid to ask questions (there are no bad questions, just unanswered ones) and always keep the health and well-being of your salty animals in mind. Hopefully with the cooler weather others will participate as well and we can resume the vibrant community of by-gone days.

I just put up a Cad Lights 70G Artisan II and I love it. The right height and depth for good aquascaping. Their CS isn't good but the quality is there. JM.02

Hmmm I'm not from Tennessee but I do know how to run a reef club.

One thing's for sure.

People are in reef clubs for two main reasons:
1) To interact/learn with other people.
2) To have fun.

Keeping a reef club interesting and functional is hard work. You gotta do the work to make things interesting and fun for people to be active in your club. Have fun meetings that people enjoy going to.

People have a tendency to....LURK. More of us like to look and read rather than start engaging topics. Make threads that encourage people to post.

Anyways, best of luck to you guys. Keep on reefing together!

Personally, and I’ll probably get flamed for this myself, I do not think it helps that the community is divided between two clubs, subsequently with two open and two private forums. I’ve always contended, and still do, that the Knoxville reefing community as a whole is held hostage by the pride, conflict and division of a few, if not one.

I’m not saying I think there should be any reunification, or one club. I’m just saying that the perception of one "dead" local forum might be amplified by all that.

Just seems to me to be kind of an elephant in the room.

I am new to R2R but when I came to the forum seeking locals I was confused to which forum I should be a part of. I have been a pretty frequent to this forum though as it has East Tennessee if the club name and being from Kingsport and not specifically the Knoxville area it seemed more appropriate. I haven't been able to attend meetings and become an active part in the club besides posting to the forum but I hope that to change as I graduate college in December. I don't know the history between the two clubs and don't particularly care too. I am just looking for a club that is actively involved in reefing and is involved in the success of another member and their reefs. Either way everyone seems willing to help and overall great people. Just hope it to continue and have a community to share and learn from!

I understand that instinct, not caring about or wanting to know the "history". The split happened before I even lived here.
I’m just playing off the point by California Reef Co, of interaction between people and having fun, or even your point of active involvement. I just think the division and numbers plays into that.
If one follows the 80/20 rule, and the idea that only about 20% of any given group may be actively engaged, then the difference between two groups of fifty and one group of a hundred makes a big difference.
Anyway, I’ll shut up now.
