The best thing I've done for coral growth has been providing consistent water parameters. Sounds silly I know but I used to let it drop quite a bit and then raise it. Now I stay on top of it and dose more frequently to keep it stable.

i feel like the best thing I have done for coral growth is getting my parameters stable over longer periods of time. Reducing the fluctuations in Alkalinity most of all and the other major and minor elements.
