DAILY QUESTION: What has been the biggest setback you've experienced in growing corals? How did you bounce back?

My biggest setback was back in Dec 2019. Everything in my tank died. My neighbor's 4 year old son feed my fishes....Tide Pods. Neighbor and his son came over to hang with my husband...I wasn't home.

I coral snow and side mb7 in an attempt to control them. My phos however, is wild and free.

Yes, yes, and sometimes!

Nutrients are good unless you go for an ultra-low/no nutrient system. I like to see phosphates and nitrates. Rather than 0 of 1 and some of the other.

I run around 0.1-0.2 phosphates and 25-50 nitrates.

Nitrates are present from fish and feeds, phosphates have a tendency to drop out so I dose them, usually with a doser but hand dosing right now until I get the doser moved over and set back up. Maybe this weekend???

Yes, your corals need the nutrients. I try to keep No3 around 5, PO4 0.06-0.014 with Alk at 7.5

From what I understand, nutrients are needed for your corals but too much can be harmful. I plan to manage them by starting with a routine water change.

I think nutrients are important when it comes to corals and that they should be tested regularly to look for any trends that might affect the tank. I will be testing and making adjustments as needed.

Gonis. Love how they look in the flow and all the colors they can come in. Close second would be the triumvirate of frogs/hammers/torches

DAILY QUESTION: What has been the best lighting setup you've used for growing corals? Why do you like this one?

Ironically the best set up is the Frankensteined one that I have set up now. ReefBreeders Photon v2 on the right with a 24” ReefBreeders blue/uv Lumenbar attached and on the left to fill in the gap is a ReeFi Uno 2.0 . All on my 90 gallon. The Photon was originally last on a IM SR60 and the ReeFi was on a brief attempt to grow Acros in a nano last year.

DAILY QUESTION: How do you handle coral fragging in your tank? Are you a frequent fragger? Occasional fragger? Or only when you have to prune?

I haven’t actually deliberately fragged any corals , though I’ve taken pieces of digitata that broke by accident and attached them to the rocks.

I until recently used ESV products for two part. I recently won a whole bunch of Red Sea stuff on TSAs recent contest and started using their products. I’ve been very happy with the trio of Alk/Cal/Mag and recently reordered more. I also Use AB+, dose with phyto periodically and also kz Reef system 4 part micro elements as well as Aminos and Iodide once a week. About to start low dosing of Manganese to see if it give my Gonis a bit of a boost
