I recently purchased the Blue Marine 4000 circulation pump and I'm a bit worried that it's too powerful for my tank.

I have it placed on the back, just under the overflow - whenever I turn it on, my clowns seem to be struggling - even though they are on the other side of where the wavemaker is.

I'm a bit weary about it for when I start introducing corals. as far as I'm aware, I have it set to the lowest flow setting, but it still seems fairly powerful.

What is the flow on the pump?

That pump is much too powerful for an evo 13.5.

There is nothing wrong with the standard pump, unless you are worried about reliability.

Why did you change it?

I didn't change the pump, I added the blue marine wavemaker for extra flow as I will be stocking with corals that require good flow.

4000 L/H - although I think I have fixed the problem by pointing the pump directly on the side of the glass. Clowns could swim peacefully without having to swim too fast with the current!
13.5g = 51 liters.

4 kL/h = 80x turnover. That's a lot.
