Any tips for placing a pump directly in the display tank (for UV)?

I'll be placing a spare Sicce SDC right in my display tank - I'm a little worried an invert or something is going to get stuck in the intake screen, it's fairly powerful.

Also, where should I place the pump? On a rock? Or just like... hang it by the output hose? I feel like putting it on the sand is a recipe for scratching up my UV quartz jacket from sand...

Hmmm...

Whats the reasoning for doing the UV?

Difficult to navigate around this.

I would have it away from sandbed and on a rock unless you have a way to secure the tension on the piping

Maybe get some kind of mesh and wrap the intake just make sure its rated for water and big enough to not get clogged but small enough to keep inverts out?

Maybe put the pump in an acclimation box.

Spitballing for you

Doing UV for a dino (ostreopsis) bloom I'm struggling with.

The SICCE SDC intake protection conical screens are fairly generous in sizing, I may be okay suction-safety wise.

Ah, you gave me an idea... I'll definitely go the rock placement route, I have a perfect flat stable shelf rock it will fit beautifully on now that I think about it, thanks!

I have an SDC 9.0 that intake is large haha.

Wait I think that intake be changed to a smaller one essentially for running the pump out of water smaller opening might be less of a chance to suck something up

Ah but if you have a smaller opening, the deltaP is greater isn't it? The larger the surface area for an inlet, the lower the suction per square unit of area
