It won't do anything unless you're using gfo to drop it that fast and I think it's something else in the gfo. Coming down with a skimmer will be fine.

Yeah you really have to be careful with GFO. I recommend 25% of what the manufacturer recommends. I could always add a couple more hours to the chaeto light, but then I'd need to up my nitrate dosing to keep that from bottoming out. However, I will be using Algaefix soon to knock out the bubble algae that has slowly started growing, so the chaeto is going to have to go one way or the other.

Very cool! You will need some other equipment to go with it, more than likely. However, I'm very knowledgeable of calcium reactors and can help you out if you're not familiar with them yet. Just pm me if you have questions. They're really very simple.
