I was thinking about upgrading the lights on my 40b to something strong enough to grow sps and I think 3 AI primes would be probably the best way to do that for the best price. Do you guys know of anything better for around $750 dollars?

Check out Quanta Pro LED bars. A 36” bar is $160, and 3 over a 40b would be plenty of light. I can’t say enough good things about these lights… the build quality is incredible and the owner is amazing. He emailed back and forth with me when I was making my purchase and helped me pick out the spectrum and coverage. I have three bars over my 18 deep and 12 tall SPS frag tank and they are growing acros like weeds. If you’re doing a mixed reef you could definitely get away with just 2.

Definitely not any of the other major brands. I wish I did this myself - the cool thing about the primes is you can replace each of the three individually if something breaks, whereas with a Hydra 32 or XR15 you need to replace the whole light.

The Radions will give you less shadowing so the light will more fully envelop your SPS, but they’re also much more expensive.

Could probably even do 1 noopsyche v3. @tbrown3589 @BroccoliFarmer will this be enough lighting?
For Noops the 140 watt version, I would say 1 per 24 inches and you are in a good spot. Given breeders are 36 inches, i would either go with 2 140 watters or 3 60 waters for the coverage

Another vote for Noopsyche. I was really impressed with the New K7 Mini 60w. I paid $76.50 shipped. It comes with a surprisingly nice mount and wifi app. I don't have it in actual use yet (waiting for a nano tank) but have played around with it. Very nice. and has a very nice shimmer too. If i had to get lights for a bigger tank, I wouldn't hestitate to run the bigger Noopsyche models and save some dough. I don't know how they hold up long term yet.

I went with 2 Smatfarm 95w for $325 with Amazon's 3-year warranty($290 without). Very easy to set up and the controller is built in. There is a slave option, when set up disables any additional lights interface, all settings run off the primary.
