Can any of these supplements cause an algae outbreak?

I am helping my uncle with his tank. He dosed a very little (about a cap full) of the supplements in the pics. He then instantly (within 1 day) had this bad of an algae bloom. His phosphate is art about .1 and .25 (salifert test ranges are weird). His phosphate didnt change before and after the bloom.

there is no need to dose trace elements and they would do more harm than good. They are typically used to replenish elements coral would take out of the water…. I don’t see any coral and certainly not at the quantity to need to dose trace elements. Water changes will replenish enough of the trace elements for some time.

Looks like a new tank but yes algae will use trace elements. This is why cheatogrow has iron and manganese in it but algae uses much more than those. With no coral or uptake and just blindly dosing... well... ya, it will benefit the algae :)

+1 all of the above. No need to dose anything .
A tank full of lps and SPS can be handled with fish poo and water changes. Once you have a tank full of coral then start exploring additives. Trace elements can most always be taken care of with a proper water charge schedule.

You should not be dosing anything unless it is required.

And yes, adding those unnecessary traces will fuel anything that will grow including stuff you don't want.

Why would you be dosing a tank which has nothing in it? I would hold off dosing anything for at least 6 months, learn the basics, understand tank uptake of your core elements. Certainly would not think to be dosing trace elements, your water changes should suffice until you have an established tank.

I know there is a temptation to do everything at once, but from personal experience i think slow and steady, incremental changes are what is required. Then monitoring of those changes to observe impacts etc. At the early stages you wont be able to attribute a particular change to any positive of negative effects.

PS - New tank = Uglies, these are largely unavoidable. Add a clean up crew, and pods, they will help to shorten the phase.
