Perhaps a nice long but narrow ocean, reef, or beach, themed painting or high quality print would look best. Nothing too crazy to distract from the tank but enough to partially cover the blank wall. Possibly a few well spaced nautical items, like a small ship wheel, porthole covers, sextant, ect. The adjacent wall over the fireplace already has a nice print so another print over the tank would be too much.

I have a blank wall above my tank that is asking for some art. Without detracting too much from the tank, and considering it is in our main living room, any suggestions? What do others have here?

How about Mean Joe Green?
If I went Football theme it would be Dick Butkus for the hit, lol.
With that I have a pic of a ship my great great grandfather captained over my ext 50. He was a master mariner for 50 years.
Better pic of the ship, the captain, and one of his whaling skiffs.

So cool, back when men were men, fearless. If you went with Butkus " The Hit" I might counter with the Immaculate Reception

Yea he was feared by all. You just dont see it today.
Another unreal player, Vince Papale, played all out, all the time. Not bad for an old rookie to show them how to do it.
I will take his touchdown as the immaculate punting defense.

I like the idea of adding some houseplants.

I also think some shelves with knicknacks would look good. If go with shelving you could also add a storage box or wicker basket for some supplies.

I think a relatively tall, hardwood canopy over the lights would look the best in that space. It gets rid of the emptiness without detracting from your tank.

I forgot about this. I did it years ago over a freshwater tank but we hung a few shells on the net. I looked pretty cool I thought.
It does, doesn't it! I had one over my 90g 15 years back with some paper fishies the kids made for me. It was cute. But I want something less 3rd grade now......
