Busted! Tangs gang up on Zoas!

I caught our Blue Tang and his homies decimated half a huge zoas colony! I usually don’t care about zoas but my wife bought these frags that grew into a nice colony. So either relocate the zoas tonight or we’ll be having sushi tomorrow!!!

Tangs are definitely not “reef safe”.

Bummer! Sorry to hear that.

I lost half of the Utter Chaos colony (30+ heads) 2 weeks ago. Somehow the rest is spared..for now.

That’s unfortunate. Why don’t you remove the Zoas or the tang?

Just moved the whole colony and rock structure to my second tank, which is already semi-full. This is way better than rehoming the fish! I can’t catch anything to save my life! lol

My blue tang ate my zoas for 20 years. Used to happen once every few months where he would directly munch the whole zoas on the rock except ones in crevices he couldn't reach.
I decided to keep the tang and just lived with the periodic wipeout.
Had a friend whose tang used to strip sps branches from tissue as well.

Ouch - that sucks! Mine nuked other zoas colonies on rocks that were encroaching my SPS a few months ago so I was very pleased. However, 2 weeks ago was not cool — the Utter Chaos colony was expensive and took awhile to grow. Today was a little dramatic for my wife - she wanted Dory dead!$&@

On the bright side, I’ve discovered a new talent today ! I didn’t realize that I’m Aquaman and can communicate to these tangs. I very much dislike zoas (pls don’t tell my wife) but I promised to dedicate that section of the tank to her and her zoas garden. Well, these fish did my evil bidding and forced my hand - literally have to remove the colony away. Awww these poor zoas!

Now I have more room for chalices. lol

No clue — suspect that not all zoas species have palytoxins? Besides, fish eating zoas is like me & you eating jalapeño and chilies right? Yes - you get a burning sensation but the more you eat, the hotter you can tolerate! I can eat a little slice of Carolina Reaper pepper now

I feel your pain, my Foxface has now taken a liking to my Zoa colonies and it’s become an all you can eat buffet for him.. I’m going to have to cancel his tank lease so he’ll need to start looking for a new home now

my blue tang is nipping on my Millepora polyps from time to time.....
I must be honest.. she is in a too small tank! So its my own fault.

I just ordered a Nyos Fish Trap.. When I get her she will move into a 1000 gallon tank a friend just built
