Woke up to my QT leaking on Thursday morning. Thankfully the Royal Gramma finished 30 days of copper and was only in Prazipro. I had to run to work so I tossed him in the DT. So far so good. Over the 40 days of QT I didn’t see any behavior that would indicate flukes or internal parasites so we may just be in the clear.

The Black Widow anemone is just growing and growing. I’m slowly having to move all my Zoas because the anemone is encroaching on them.

I installed my Santa-Monica Filtration Drop 1.2X last Sunday. Tomorrow I will pull it during my water change routine to inspect the growth if there is any.

What a week. Won the tank at Reef-A-Palooza for my school and bought an amazing green splatter bubble coral from Top Shelf Aquatics at the show.

If you want to check out the new tank look for my new build thread.

It was a pleasure meeting you @Peace River and @revhtree 8EEC0221-F23C-4462-9246-3A93A4983E80.jpeg

Well it’s been a great weekend. Our ginormous Rainbow Bubble Tip split into 3. Looks like we now have a small, medium, and large anemone. I’ll try to grab pictures as they begin to emerge from their arch.

Well alkalinity has risen quite a bit. The doser has been dosing as it should so consumption has slowed. Tank looks good though so I’m not worried. I shut the doser for the last week so I can measure Alk everyday to determine consumption.

Having the anemones has made it difficult to keep Zoas because when the anemone split it rolled right over my garden. I had to move everything to tiles on the sand. So… I just pulled the trigger on my second tank, an Innovative-Marine 25 lagoon. I love small tanks and this will be perfect for softies.

Was finally able to capture one of the anemones. I used one of my Octo Aquatics Shu acclimation boxes. Sure did come in handy. I sold the anemone for $75 on the local Facebook group. I originally bought the rainbow nem for $75 so it was nice to get my money back. The doser is still off. Not sure what happened but everything has been great without dosing. I read that reducing nitrates can increase alkalinity and this seemed to start with the introduction of the algae scrubber so who knows. I switched salts. I’m now using Two Little Fishies AccuraSea1. I refuse to use Aquaforest now that they are distributed by BRS. Also, the splatter bubble I picked up at RAP has withered away. Everything else is great so one of those things I have no explanation for. Maybe it has something to do with being wild and non aquacultured. Who knows.

Wow! Didn’t realize I haven’t posted since June. Lots of changes. The green bubble withered away and almost took my bubble with it. Maybe it was some wild disease. Luckily the flesh stopped receding on my bubble and it’s finally opening completely again. Only captive grown and fragged bubbles for me.

Skittles, our Carpenters Fairy wrasse passed away. He got stung again by the anemone and was incapacitated and never recovered. Found his remains the next morning. I think our anemones are too big for a fish that swims in open space like he did. My daughter was so sad and still is. I miss that fish. He was like a puppy, always swimming up to meet me.

Added new Zoas and a mushroom to the tank. Things are going very well.

Oh! And we set up a second tank in the house. More to come on that.

I’m so proud of the candy canes. They have been on a downward spiral ever since the summer of ‘21 when I did the tank transfer. Now new flesh has grown down the skeleton of each piece and the heads are growing and splitting. I think my favorite are the ice blue. I’ve waited a long time for these to make a comeback.

Tank is doing well. Turned the dosers on again. Consumption has picked up again. I can see the candy canes growing, the Duncan has many new heads, and the bubble coral is bigger. Since the tank consumed .5dKH (9.0 to 8.5) over a week I set the doser for Tuesday through Saturday, 1.5ml per day of ESV 2-part. 1.5ml will raise the tank .1dKH, so this schedule should keep the tank very stable. I’ll test Alk each night this week to confirm I’m getting the results I want.

The RBTA split again. I can’t believe it has split twice now but the Black a widow hasn’t. It just grows and grows.

Man it’s been awhile. The tank is doing alright. The anemones have taken over. All the Zoas are gone. They’ve been moved into the new 25 Lagoon. The Bubble coral isn’t always the happiest with the anemones, it wins fights though. The Duncan is happy and then not happy because of the anemones. The clowns are doing great. They actually just spawned for the first time. I added an algae blenny to the tank. He is fat and happy on nori. He was originally in the lagoon but the flame Hawkfish tried to eat him for lunch so he went in the 40. I have to supplement with nori as the display has little algae because of the scrubber. My candy cane corals have started growing again. I have kryptonite, mint, bi-color, and ice blue. Thinking about moving them to the new tank. Not entirely sure. I am in love with the new softy tank. My Zoas are growing well. The mushrooms are growing well. I’ve been dosing Tropic Marin A & K trace elements and I think it’s made a decision as I’ve seen an explosion of growth. Something in the tank is stinging the new clownfish. They have signs of hyper-melanization. Coraline started growing in the lagoon so I’ll start to monitor Alk as that’ll be the only thing consuming it as the tank is softy. I also need to get the TM A & K on the doser.

Holy crap! I can’t believe I haven’t posted in 5 months. The tanks are doing okay. My bubble coral finally died. I firmly believe there was some kind of chemical warfare going on between the anemones, bubble coral and frogspawns. Now that the bubble is gone, the frogspawns have been growing a ton. The RBTA keeps splitting. I currently have 7. I finally built up the courage to peel them off the rock. It was relatively easy. I need to add another pump as I have a dead spot in the front corner of the tank that harbors some cyano. My candy canes are growing so well. The mint ones are huge and the blue ones are finally a nice size. Only took a year. The Clownfish are now laying a clutch of eggs on a regular basis. One of these days I’ll try to raise them.

My beautiful zoa tank is going to probably need to be restarted. I have digitate hydroids. One came in on a zoa frag and by the time I removed the frag, it had already spread. They have been a nuisance and a problem I have not been able to solve. Dips don’t kill them and I have been unable to locate a lynx nudibranch. I can use Fenbendazole but I don’t want to go that route and have the chance all my inverts are lost. I have a monster crab that has eaten some of my Zoas, but at this point I don’t care.

What a wild 6 months. I lost my 25 Lagoon softy tank. Tank became overrun with Digitate Hydroids. I broke the tank down and sold off the majority of equipment. One tank for me from now on. I lost all the Zoas, moved the Flame Hawkfish and the Clown Goby to the 40 gallon. The Clown Goby passed a few weeks ago. :( one clownfish from the softy tank died a couple weeks before I broke it down. Never found him. The other clown I gave away on a local facebook ok group page.

In the 40 gallon tank I lost all my anemones. Every Rainbow Bubble Tip lost their tentacles and then just died. I figured maybe chemical warfare with the Black Widow. Then last week my precious Black Widow threw up its guts, detached from the rock and died. I feel awful for my clowns. They are now homeless.

I just completed 3 water changes in as many days to clean up the tank. I’ll start to add more corals again sometime soon but I think I’ll stay away from anemones. I just don’t have it in me. Hopefully the clowns will host the Duncan or Toadstool.

I need to find a nano sized reactor that I can run in the display for a bit to help me lower my phosphates. PO4 is at .52ppm. Down from maxing out the Hanna Checker. Pretty sure that was part of the problem. I let things get away from me. Hair algae is pretty much under control.

I’d like to add a few more mushroom corals and a chalice or two up top.

I think the tanks got away from me because I have trouble managing more than one hobby at a time and I am really into board games and Table Top skirmish games right now. I play Infinity and love it.

Here are some pictures of what’s left.

Went to Too Shelf Aquatics today for the first time in months. Picked up some LRS Reef Frenzy Nano, Turbo snails and a sand sifting starfish. My daughters loved watching him bury himself in the sand.

I did my fourth water change and PO4 is down to .42ppm. Will probably do another water change tomorrow.

Another step in the right direction as I get the tank on track.

I’m back. Almost exited from the hobby. Nothing but frustration the last 8 months or so. Dinos, this red velvety algae, cyano, and just about everything else you can imagine. I got rid of my second tank, almost got rid of the 40 gallon too. But, fish are family. But I have great news to share. The tank has really turned a corner. Hair algae, gone! Dinos, gone! Corals are doing great. Fish are great. I added a new anemone and the clowns moved back in. Went to RAP Orlando and it certainly helped pull me back in. Met up with my good friends at Coral Vue and took my daughter Charlotte on Sunday. She picked out a new gorgeous Rhodactis mushroom from @Living Reef Orlando and a serpent starfish. Happy to be back and fully invested again.
