When we went from summer to fall and got cold overnight my tank temp dropped from 78 to 76...I had to crank up the heater to max temp to keep my tank the correct temp overnight.
6 weeks later same thing happens except as I said the heater is maxed out so I had to buy the next size larger heater.
Apex alerted me both times my temp dropped too low.
BTW; I threw a second heater in until my larger heater arrived.

Did any of us get someone we know on Elfster?

Just get some hydra 26s, run dave saxby, and hang them 8” above the tank. That’s a steady 80 F with no heater.

I got someone who posted here once, from one of katrina's thread group's local reefing clubs but not naming who....
So someone here knows my recipient locally!!

Wait... are you supposed to turn off your pumps while feeding fish?
Doesn't matter really, just a preference.
Corals prefer the flow during broadcast feeding so then it's definitely beneficial to keep it on.

I always turn them off and even my return for coral, fish have to fight each other for mysis.

I have been keeping this a secret, but I run an illegal fish fighting ring on the side.

Not atall, I'm a little bummed I was force matched to other Canadians, I was really hoping to get one of you guys:(

Better solution... run dual heaters of the same size as the one you had. Larger heaters could potentially cook your tank unless you run it off your apex but then you're still trusting the apex 100% to not fail and do the same thing....

Great idea but currently the heater takes 90min - 2hrs to get from 78.0 to 78.6
Not wearing out the relay in the apex and if apex fails it will take a day to overheat the tank I'd have to be on vacation which never happens.
Great advice though and I would give the same advice you gave me, just have a specific scenario here that luckily works for me.

Dual heaters would probably be able to maintain the temps pretty evenly, you'd technically be running double the wattage.. Just my thoughts:)

@Santa Claus we have somebody who wants to break the rules. Can you put her on the naughty list.

I spoke to Santa Claus about this already and He said that it would require a lot of Red tape moving her off the Red Head list. Plus he said the Naughty list would technically be an upgrade so it wouldn't work out anyway;):p

Santa clause doesn’t like tattle tales.
