So glad we got a hammer coral in anticipation of getting our little special clown! The algae scrubber is hosting him nicely.

I loveeeee my hammer. I'm going to have to get either a hammer or a torch in my 10g now. Thinking about added a torch to this biocube as well.

This is 4 months of growth with no extra effort on my end. You can also see the insane yellow polyp growth. Second picture was a time of sick polyps though. Got them all yellow and healthy again.

I Target fed the hammer yesterday. It was kinda cool. The little tentacles ( please correct me if that is not the right name) carried the food to the mouth. I was wondering if both heads need to be fed or does the entire coral benefit?

How's your tank doing? I see your posts every now and then but don't recall a recent picture. You were battling some algae recently, right?

Yes. Some lovely cyano and minor gha. I have some pros coming today to get rid of it and move some things around to make the tank easier to clean and maybe get rid of dead stag horn.

I have no idea what I'm doing yet. I'm such a rookie. I was afraid I might kill my son's fish if I did it. I still get a little nervous doing water changes.

Gotcha! I had a nasty outbreak of Cyano about a month or two ago. I blew it all off the rocks, sucked it up, and it'd come back within 24 hours. It was really pretty impressive. I cut down my light schedule from about 12 hours to 7, and algae is pretty much non existent. Both cyano and green algae on the glass. I used to have to scrub the glass every day, now I do it maybe once every 3 or 4 days.

I've made my water changes very simple now. I have a mark in my bucket for 10% change. I siphon out to that mark, and then refill with fresh saltwater and just fill the tank from the bucket. I'm always putting back exactly what I took out. On days I do my water change, I clean out the chambers and change any filtration. I really am not having to do much to my tank besides testing and water changes.

Also, if somebody tells you BioCubes can't grow SPS, take a look at my Hollywood Stunner Chalice :) can't believe how pretty this thing has gotten, and noticeable growth weekly.

I haven't killed anything in the tank yet. It may be a while before I'd try an SPS. Note I said YET.

I'd love to have a little clam, but I'm pretty sure our tank is way too small.

BTW, your post some time back saved some serious panic with my son. Our clown swims like he is sick in the morning too. I appreciate the prior knowledge.

All I've lost is a few shrimp, and I'm 99% sure I tracked down the reason for that. I was using a metal turkey baster without even thinking anything of it, and discovered it was rusting!! I used it almost daily to hit my sand and blow off the rocks. I used it in my new 10g to top off water, and within 6 hours my little peppermint was dead :( that's when it all clicked in my head. I threw it away and I've had a little pistol shrimp and a beautiful fire shrimp in my biocube for a few weeks now and they're doing great. Shrimp were dying within days before.

Yep. Learned from that too. Made sure ours was plastic. We don't have shrimp. I've read several things about them eating sleeping fish and others that eat coral. I like watching them, but I'm afraid to risk it.

Well the tank got redone. Looks so much better! As it turns out our circulator fan was ( as the previous owner's) on the wrong side. Our filter has been pretty much useless until now. So glad I called a pro to correct my mistakes and teach me hands on! As for the little clown, yes he is seriously flawed. He fits right in!

Does anyone know if hammers give the finger? I'm pretty sure mine just did for disturbing his spot. That's it. His name is Sheldon.

We also are getting another 8 gallon cube. Parrot had one and asked if we might want it. Yes! The jic tank that we already have equipment for. These are hard to find. We'd be in a bind if we were to have an "incident"

Well everything is alive and well this morning. I see the big hermit (Jenny Craig) has been pulling some stuff over...I may have to glue Derby's favorite barnacles to a rock.
