Dennis thinks an extra weir wall is the best bet for adding a substrate.

So now the question is where would you get a piece of acrylic to glue in there?

Anyone know the length and thickness of the other weir walls?

How high would be optimal for the wall to (a) keep the sand/mud bed (let's say 1-2" bed) in place, and (b) keep enough flow in the bottom of the space? Maybe 4 inches?

I'd prefer no powerheads in the sump but could add a small one if necessary.

Thanks!

I think they would do be able to do this for a very small fee

I would say 1-2” higher than desired depth of sand. All the flow is to the right and the right has a solid wall. Higher the wall, the higher the current will be above the sand, reducing the amount that gets blown around

So maybe a 4 in high wall for a 2 in sand/mud bed? I'm planning in growing dragons breath and probably some of the tastier gracilaria.

This is my main displays sump / refugium

In the fuge section I have a 3” sandbed
The bottom of the opening in the red wall is 4” from the ground.

So from the ground up…3” sand. 1” space. The opening bottom is 4” and the top is 5”

My sand stays in place with the current 1” above it

They can't do that modification and suggests getting a piece cut from scrap at a plastics shop. I'll have to look around to find out where I can acquire that.

I can measure the sumps internal width later today

By width do you mean thickness?
Yes, was thinking thickness of the walls, e.g., 1/4" thickness, ___ " length. Dennis said to just make it the internal depth (not height) of the sump, minus a bit to have a gap for the silicone. I figure measuring the internal weir walls is the most accurate.

Found a few places to pick up the acrylic scraps.

Also, getting ready for the spending spree!

For VCA RFGs, I understand that the return tubing is 1", but that the nozzle going through to the locline is 3/4". Is that correct? So the VCA 3/4" flex RFG is the best option? Is additional locline needed, or is what's included OK?

Probably looking at 60-70lb of sand, special grade. Will likely look locally first.

Lid, will check with Walter.

And now thinking of how to mount the 4x Noopsyches... Any ideas on setting up an attractive and minimal wirey-mess mount?

On that note, anyone have pictures of their wire management??

Somewhere in this 21page thread I pasted an email from VCA specifically about the rfg options and their recommendations

I believe the return plumbing is 1” and it’s 3/4” lock line. The newest kit they offer comes with a soft adapter, you just snap off the lock line at one of the knuckles and snap on their soft adapter and rfg

do you know if they make any bigger tanks ?
looking for something a bit bigger.

This is the only size offered and they have around 12-13 left

I already have a 75g reef which is basically the same dimensions, 2” shorter and 2” less deep. I was going to get a larger tank as a second reef…but it’s deal was too good for me to pass up

My filter socks will be replaced with media cups. I’ll toss a chemi pure bag in each one. some biomedia blocks leading into chamber 2

And then chamber 2 I have a low profile skimmer that doesn’t take up much space. I’ll have live rock all over. And the surf 2 floating towards the front for easy access

Not everything is hunky dory, though. I don't like this:

This is the exact problem that Red Sea had with their tanks (as far as my understanding of the situation is). I'm planning on adding something very sturdy that the whole tank sits on top of, laying on top of the stand. Perhaps another piece of wood or a cut piece of steel sheet. Also considering adding an internal eurobrace on the bottom. Hmmm...

Silicone looks very nice, but is very very thin:

I'm used to the IM tanks that have a thick black silicone layer in the corners. Thinking more on the eurobrace at the bottom...

Overall excited about the tank. Looks super nice!
