If in the future you decide to try setting up a brood system and want some advice on what has and hasn't worked for me feel free to PM me. I can link you to many useful threads and some resources for supplies. I am by no means an expert, but currently have clownfish fry (50 total) at day 70 something and cardinalfish babies at day 3 (42 total). I have had success with both species in the past, and i am also working on springeri damsels and freidmani psuedochromis but having a hard time sourcing a pure strain of S-type rotifers.
Truth be told I have no interest. The female molly in my tank now was raised from fry in saltwater and it more or less got lucky too altho I did feed it. This guy happen to be lucky enough to make it this far so I will try for him but not really sure I want the work of raising these little guys. The eggs they laid a week ago about to hatch so maybe he will end up with a sibling or 2 on there. I took out filter socks just in case

Cool that he is still alive! Maybe instead of trying to put something around the pump you could isolate the fry in a breeder box like freshwater folks use for guppies. Something like this maybe? You are making me rethink my entire fry rearing tank setup. Maybe I could just move my own fry to my 20g refugium full of pods and chaeto using a similar box…

It think that might be good idea but whatever is going on in there he likes it. Think just gonna let it roll. Just dumped some baby brine and he had at it. It's prob like day 8 and he still.going so we shall see. Return pump is always looming tho

How long does it take for these guys to get to a decent size? I have to figure out what I'm gonna do with him when he gets bigger. Cant put him in display mom and dad will murder him

Mine are at day 83 or so. The largest are barely 1/2 inch still. So you have lots of time.

My damsels loved that hatchery diet. Need to buy more once tank back up. Even mollies ate it.

depends on how much you feed them
Yeah, how much you feed and the nutrition of the feed play a role, as does the temperature (and a few other factors), but they take a while (months) to get larger. I've heard of some reaching ~1" at 6 weeks post hatch. though.

Best path for raising fry is crowding them so they get are constantly bumping into food vs having them spend energy seeking it. Raising one in an expanse such as a sump more difficult as far as accelerated growth then 500 in a ten gallon container.

Only solution is a high density target rich food environment and hopefully rest of tank benefits from it. I'd turn the water green and loaded it with brine shrimps and pods and let them multiply therefore providing their own properly sized fry. Corals might enjoy it and I'm sure resident fish will too.

Just did water change and little dude is still chilling in there. Used a sponge to block him from cruising to other compartments when water rose with pump off. Getting baby brine shrimp and crushed pellets 4 times a day. Tears the crushed pellets up. I it will be 2 weeks tomm from when he hatched

Ok got some pics and video today. He is hard to shoot hides most ofthe time. His hiding spot is under the over hang where the original ato went. That is good because it is away from the pump intake. Prob cuz I feed there. Seems to be a bit bigger but who knows. Def eating the baby brine and crushed hatchery I put in there. When I put the hatchery stuff in there he comes out almost immediately but first sign of me and he gone. Going on over 2 weeks now so that is good. The eggs from mamas batch hatched last night but no sign of em. Pretty sure the night wasn't kind to them.

This is week 3 since he hatched and 2 weeks since I noticed him. He's definatly gotten bigger. As soon as I put the creshed pellets in he comes out. Gobbles em up. Problem is he is in my dosing chamber so that is kind of irritating. And not sure what I'm gonna do with him eventually. Little guy is definitely a survivor
